Chapter #2

Welcome to the prequel

[A rehash of the first main chapter and seen through the eyes of Blaise's father, Raphael]

[Note from Random Anon: I decided to slightly rewrite this chapter to expand upon it a little and to show that while there are some similarities between Blaise's and Raphael's stories, there are some things that played out differently]

Year 1999...

The alarm in your clock goes off and you groggily wake up with a long yawn. You actually had a good night's rest, so technically you're all in good health to face the day, though that doesn't mean you're terribly excited about it if it's some boring stuff, like one more school day. Then again, whether it's school or not, you look forward to spending more quality time with Miriam, your crush. You feel confident that you've been making good, steady progress over the years and now that you're in your final year of highschool and you plan on asking her out soon...

However things aren't as simple as that, you met her almost 6 years ago, starting middle school, but she sort of came with a "package deal" as Miriam's best friend, Sheila, is almost any man's dream in the flesh, she's got curves like nobody's business, though Miriam does have her beat in the chest department. But the Brazilian girl not only is extremely thicc, she's pretty wild too, very, VERY flirty, and often rather touchy-feely with you, which has led to countless awkward moments. Both have a quirky sense of humor and ways of showing affection that normally you'd say it takes some getting used to, particularly for your nose, but they're actually quite similar to your mom's and your best friend's, knowledge that you're not even sure how to feel about...

Speaking of your best friend, that smart Cuban girl, Zuleima, seems to have a slightly odd friendship with you, not in a necessarily bad way, but sometimes the line between friend and girlfriend seems to blur when dealing with her, she's pretty affectionate, also in some quirky ways, and she trusts you enough that she's shared some really intimate things with you, but then again you don't know for sure how you're supposed to feel about that. She's kind, supportive and her mind's the sharpest you've ever known, to the point that she's probably one of the main reasons you could get any progress with Miriam at all, but whenever you hang out with the 3 girls you can sense some tension in the air and you suspect she might not get along with the other two as well as you'd hope.

Sometimes you've had to go to Dolores for advice, initially you met her as a friend of Miriam's and Sheila's but she's quickly become like a surrogate big sister to you. Her tall and curvy physique can seem imposing, and you do find her a little intimidating, she makes the girls, who are all curvy by their own right look skinny in comparison, and much to your embarrassment she can easily and unintentionally (to your knowledge) get you flustered, but she'd never given you any reasons to think she has any ulterior motives, besides, she's like 5 years older than you, so she probably sees you as a kid, you think.

You make yourself a nice breakfast, you're practically by yourself most of the time, as your brother, Miguel Ángel, is often in the care of your uncles and aunts, since he's younger than you are, but when he's at home you usually have to act as his guardian. He's not as smart as you'd like but he has a good heart, and can usually be left to his own devices, but you do try to keep an eye on him while at school at the very least. Your mom's ways have still stuck with you, and she taught you never to leave home for a prolonged time on an empty stomach. You just wished she wasn't so overbearing when she was at home, she could quite literally smother you with affection, and she has her very particular ways of showing it.

After eating breakfast, the house's phone rang so you naturally picked up to answer.

"Sup!"

"Hey, B-Man!" You replied, greeting your other best friend besides Zuleima "What's up?"

"To be honest I was calling to make sure you didn't fall back asleep, are your parents still making you get up early to do stuff at home?" He said, sounding slightly worried but chuckling at the same time.

"Nah, dad's not doing that anymore, got a new job that's having him travel around the country, and mom's on her next round of business trips as well" You explained.

"Damn! It must be lonely in there"

"Eh, Miguel Ángel comes by pretty often and I'm not even at home all that much myself, you know, I've got places to be, things to do..." You laughed a little.

"More like girls to do, huh tiger?" He teased you, which made you laugh for a couple of seconds.

"Tiger? I'm barely a lynx at most... It's not like I'm one of the super popular dudes" You replied "I mean if anything you are the tiger?" You teased him back, though there was true in what you said, he was almost the textbook definition of the kind of guy that gets all the girls, at least how you knew it was back in Mexico.

"Hah! You're exaggerating!"

"Brother, I swear that sometimes you just use me to look even better. You know, the ugly friend trick? That's like the oldest one in the book" You said.

"What are you smoking Raph?" He laughed.

"Just telling the truth. I ain't the one with the blond hair and blue eyes that can make about any girl fall for you"

"You say that but you're the one that has 3 pretty girls lined up" He chuckled.

"What? Zuleima's just a friend! And Sheila... uh, I think she's like that with everyone" You replied, blushing a little.

"Nah, she's not... Also, what about Miriam then?" He asked, and through his voice alone you could almost picture his smug smile.

"She's just a friend too..."

"For now" He laughed.

"Ah, shut up!"

"Anyway, have you checked what day is it today?" He then asked.

"Not yet... why? Did I miss something?" You raised an eyebrow.

"I dunno, why don't you see for yourself? See ya later!" He then hung up. It definitely sounded like he knew something you didn't, but you needed to figure out what it was exactly. So you go look at your calendar to find out. Even if you didn't have school, work could be pretty busy thanks to your boss, Ms. Greta Ottamen.

Just another day of being Raphael Santos.
