This choice: Linger until another Trainer arrives. • Go Back...Chapter #6Once lost now found by: Juliet You rack your brain. Guarantor of knowledge, one memory you retain is that upon your arrival all new Trainers would be gathering to greet you. How rustic. Your own cultural upbringing knew nothing like it. A bit of plucky optimism sang through your bones as you wondered if the relatively rural population of this town were safer to shrink around than the natives of Kalos. Probably.
And that same kid who’d disappeared inside now creeps out, sent out with a pat on his back by probably his dad. His presence scares you, registering more as two dumb shoes thumping into dirt than a human being, and so you retreat deeper into grass and watch him pass by. It was stupid. You could have gotten someone’s attention, but you couldn’t help but act stupid.
Whatever. Realistically, you thought, I don’t want help from a kid anyway. I’m a Champion with an image to uphold, so I need to contact an adult and arrange my meeting with the children through the liaison of a responsible chaperone. The demonstration could go off without a hitch, even in these circumstances. Your authority knew little restrictions; even when shrunken the local bumpkins would likely see to accommodating you.
Next time someone passed you wouldn’t miss your chance. When a pair of shoes pounded dust into dirt, you took no chances. Scrambling before her, you tumbled onto your hands and knees, mouth agape as you babbled out a cry for help. Your brain registers her appearance with a significant lag. You had wanted one of the parents, but you catch the attention of a newbie trainer, potentially one who’s never even claimed a ‘Mon.
“Huh?” She says. “Whazzat?” She gawks at you moronically. She’s blue-haired and clad in shorts with collared top. Perfectly suited to hot days like these. The summer sun bears down on you both with fairness, but she’s the better dressed. Few inexperienced trainers would bear the flashy cloak that flaps against your ass uncomfortably, now, as you swallow down spit and look at the giantess with big eyes. Her expression doesn’t tell you anything, and so you speak.
“Hello!” You say. “It is I, the Champion of Kalos. I’ve come to introduce myself to the trainers of Pallet Town. Care to pick me up, please?”
“Um,” she looks at you, “You’re the Champion?”
“Of course. Wanna see all of my badges? Maybe one of my Pokémon?” As you say that, the void in your pockets makes itself evident. “Actually…” you continue.
“Wow!” She sounds amazed. “Show me Greninja.”
Of course. Everyone knows the Champion of Kalos is always accompanied by their Greninja. But you aren’t. Left to prove your identity to an uneducated trainer, you’ve come up empty-handed. And she notices.
“Huh. Don’t have him? Okay, um…”
“I may,” you speak, thinking quick on your feet, “have left him in the nearby lab with your professor. What’s his name?” You ponder. “Oh, yeah, Oak. Please, take me to Professor Oak.”
“Well, um…” The girl remains lost in thought half of the time. “We have a meeting near the town gate. I can’t miss it.”
“A meeting? A meeting with whom?”
“Oh,” she says, “to meet you! Guess I don’t need to go, right?”
“Well,” you say nervously, “you do need to go. Just to turn me over to Professor Oak. You take me to him, and you can be on your way. Sound like a deal?”
“Um…” she says, “I’m going to meet him in a few hours to pick my first Pokémon. Can you just wait for that?”
Faced with the insurmountable hurdle of the infantile logic of a mere Lass, you freeze. If there were ever the time to assert yourself and pull rank, it’s now. You just need to play the role of the adult here. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
