Chad and a couple of the frat’s other officers got the grill going, and soon the smell of hamburgers and hot dogs cooking filled the air. One of the guys had brought a football down from his room, and you tossed it back and forth with him. Music blasted from a speaker system that had been set up in a corner, and some of the guys had changed into swimsuits to test out the pool.
A row of coolers filled with beer had been laid out near the table, and your friend Nick grabbed one out of the nearest cooler. You frowned for a second as you glanced over—was he wearing a….skirt? You blinked in confusion and the denim skirt you’d thought you’d seen Nick wearing was gone. So weird, you thought to yourself. Maybe you just needed more sleep?
You very nearly missed the next throw from Troy as you saw Manuel walk by in what seemed like a pair of bright pink heels. Once again they were gone a second later when you looked again. Giving Troy an excuse you decided to head up to your room to grab your swim trunks.
The house is a little bit creepy, you think to yourself as you make your way up towards your room. The place had many long hallways and shadows seemed to shift and move on their own as you passed rooms filled with partly unpacked boxes. A loud thud sounds from one of the rooms on your right, and you stop.
“Hello?” You call out. You had thought everyone was outside right now for the party, but maybe someone had come back to grab something?
Not getting a reply, you cautiously entered what looked like a storage room. A large stack of boxes loomed in one corner, and you coughed a little as dust filled the air. One glance around is enough to convince you that no one had been in here in a very long time.
So what made that noise?
Deciding you didn’t really want to know, you hurried out of the storage room and up the stairs to your own room. You can’t shake the odd feeling, though, that you are being watched. Glancing over your shoulder several times, though, you never see anything other than empty corridor.
Changing into your swim trunks and grabbing a towel, you headed back out towards the party. You’d only been gone a few minutes, and from the sounds coming from outside even more people had arrived. Your fraternity had close ties with several of the sororities that had houses nearby, and you guessed Chad must have invited one of them over.
Before long you were sitting on the edge of the pool, drinking a beer and enjoying the music. You spotted Jessica, a friend of yours you’d met at a party a couple weeks ago, and waved. She smiled and hurried over to you, taking a seat next to you on the side of the pool.
“Beer?” You offered, handing her one of your extra drinks. She nodded happily as the two of you began to talk.
