Chapter #8

Mom Remote - Dennis and his family

    by: Morphology Author IconMail Icon
"Well, I was thinking letting Dr. D know. I feel that they would be great to have Courtney walk a mile in their shoes, so to speak." Kim replied nonchalantly. She started to tell her son about how Courtney had acted on the way home towards her and how she'd never seen this side of her before tonight. "I mean, when she sees me its like she flips a switch when she's talking to me and I've never seen the real side of her, you know?" She sighed as she sat down on the sofa next to Josh. Looking at the television, Kim saw the movie that he was watching. "Oh my, what is this crap that you're watching?" She asked.

Looking back at the television and feeling embarrassed, Josh quickly turned it off and looked back at her. "Yeah, I saw it and it just seemed to be interesting." He said trying to save himself from any more scrutiny. "So anyway, are we just going to Dennis in on this whole thing and he will be okay with it?" Letting out a drawn out sigh as he held the television remote in his hand. "I mean, what are we going to say to him. Hey Dennis, this remote can change your life." He pointed it over at the door. "Zap Zap! Yeah, I'm sure that will go over real well." Josh told her as he sarcastically rolled his eyes.

Crossing her arms across her chest, Kim glared at her son. "Well, if you put it that way." Uncrossing her arms and putting her hands on her knees. "Look, I'm sure Dr. D will understand when you use the remote like you did on me." She held up her hands to act like she had the remote in her hands. "Zap Zap! There now you believe us."

Putting the remote down and looking at his Mom with a concerned look, he put his hands on hers. "Sweetie, I don't think that would be wise. Perhaps we can tell him about the remote and maybe use it on him. Nothing permanent, just something that will get him to know its for real." He thought for a minute. "How about giving him a tattoo or swap some piercings over to him so that he will know. That way we can swap it back and it won't be permanent."

Narrowing her eyes she looked back at him. "You mean like a tattoo that Leah and I got right before she found out she was pregnant?" She started to roll up the cuff of her jeans to show the spot on her right calf, but found that it wasn't there. "Wait, where..." She stopped for a moment before looking back at her son, who still had her hair style on his head. Letting go of her pants cuff, she then brought her hand up to her cheek, where she found that she had Josh's 5 o'clock shadow. Resting her hand on the sofa, Kim looked back at her son. "Actually, like the tattoo that you and Leah got right before she found out that she was pregnant." Kim corrected as she gestured to his leg.

Cocking his eye brow as if to question her statement, but her smile seemed to radiate 'trust me'. Doing as he was asked, Josh uncovered his legs to show the sweatpants that his Mom had been wearing earlier. "I guess I got too much into this and forgot that we'd been swapped." He said as he covered himself back up. Thinking back to his text exchange with Dennis, he began to feel his cheeks getting warm.

"Yeah, I totally forgot that we swapped too. I guess with my mind on Courtney, I just slipped in and didn't think anything of it." Kim replied with a chuckle.

Thinking about how they'd slipped into their roles so easily, Josh was thinking about having an observer to relegate the changes. Turning his head towards his Mom, Josh felt his longer hair brush against his neck. "If we do this swap like you're wanting, what is keeping us from acting like the people that we swap with?" Josh asked his Mom, who seemed intrigued with it and motioned her hands to have him continue. "What if we have an outside observer who will have the remote and will watch us to make sure we swap back. I mean, right now, I completely forgot that I was in your life and just kept on going as if nothing had happened." Thinking back to the text exchange with Dennis, Josh gasped. "Just like how I was calling him Dennis and you were calling him Dr. D."

Hearing this, Kim started to playback the conversation that she'd had earlier and chuckled. "You know you're right. I called him Dr. D, just like you do." Rubbing the back of her neck, she started to think. 'Perhaps he's right, having an outside observer would be a good idea, but who can we trust with it? Leah or Ashley would be great, but since Josh found it, I think he should be the one to choose.' Turning back to Josh, Kim chuckled. "So who do you think we can trust with this remote?"

Knowing that Jenn had already seen and used the remote to take his height, Josh thought that she would be a great observer. "What about Jenn?" He suggested nearly offhandedly as he looked at his Mom. She already knows about the remote and its power, plus we can get a small lock box to store the remote in and give her one of the keys."

Listening to this idea, Kim started to nod her head in agreement. "That might not be such a bad idea. So who all is going to be using the remote, I know Courtney, you and I are and..."

Holding his hands up to stop her, Josh interrupted. "Wait, I didn't want to use it again, I just thought it was going to be just the three of you using it."

Feeling hurt by Josh not wanting to join in on the fun, Kim puffed out her lip slightly. "So you don't want to join us anymore? That's why I suggested getting somebody to keep an eye on us that way we don't get too into our roles." She leaned over and grabbed his arm. "Please it'll be fun and plus we don't have to worry about the clinic being opened until after the holiday is over with."

"Well I guess I could use it too." Josh thought to himself aloud, causing Kim's smile to grow larger. "But what about the little ones? Bri, Lilly, and James? We don't want them involved right?" He asked, trying to get a better idea of what to have in mind for the next week or so. "I mean, we can't just have the kids running the households while the adults play as kids."

Nodding her head, Kim seemed to get what he was getting at. "I see your point. We can ask Dr. D what he wants to do and suggest that the adults, plus Courtney, can switch among themselves and the three of them can pick names from a hat or something to get an idea of who they're going to be." She suggested as she chuckled to herself. "I can't wait to see what Courtney will do when she has to live one of our lives for the week, but I would love for her to be the parent and have to cook everything."

Chuckling too, Josh thought of something else. "If she gets one of the adults, how about we just host everyone here, that way we don't have to worry about getting separated and we can keep an eye on everyone. You know, to make sure the kids being adults don't drink and stuff like that." He suggested as they both started to think about the details of what would be involved.
