Amy, who is now fused into Dan's version of Cortana is looking through files, and feels a little bad about this, but the mystery is too intriguing to stop. Genie says something "Amy, I think" but then the lights come on, and it's Dan, speaking "Cortana, wake up system" and Amy is shocked to find herself bringing the computer up, and even worse, feels herself speaking "Yes Dan, system up, how can I help you?" And Amy is stunned, because she can feel she wants to...no, HAS to bey his commands, because she had Genie write her into the Cortana program, so now she IS Cortana, and since he activated her, she is stuck.
He has her bring up nesting files, as he had gotten a text on his smartwatch from a fellow researcher down south. Now that he activated the system, Amy is shocked to find she's in his phone, his smartwatch, she is everywhere, even in the security computer at his garage warehouse on the mainland, wait what? She is finding out way more that she expected, way more quickly, even trapped as she is in his OS at the moment. But Dan is comparing notes and figures, and with a mental lurch, she Cortana-Amy realizes Dan had been looking into what they had talked about on the beach, and she had given him an idea to check overall nest success rates versus ten years ago. Obviously success rates here are higher, but lower down south and the various differences show an increase that becomes stagnant and then turns into a slow decrease over the last five years. The species that had been recovering from being endangered are now sliding back toward that status, but slowly enough, and with growth in other areas that people missed it. And he figured it out, in part because of their discussion. He tells her to email US Fish and Wildife, as well as other nature organizations, and she does, not that she has a choice. It's weird having to obey him like this, and Cortana-Amy idly wonders if this is what it was like for Genie, having to obey without question.
This was weird enough, but then Dan tells Cortana to bring up the files on Amy. He's having her look into herself, though of course he doesn't know that. Oh gawd, he is a creeper, stalking her and ...wait what? Cortana brings up files on the gallery that buys a lot of her art, and before she can even wonder why he has access to that, she is letting him know the total HE has spent on her exhibit. He's the donor who funded the independent gallery that buys her work? He's the one who has basically supported her art the last three years? Oh my God, he's perfect: rich art loving nature boy who lives alone and is actually interested in her? Dayum, she couldn't have used Genie to wish up a guy this perfect! And here she is stuck having to obey him as a stupid blue AI!
Dan gets an alert from his garage, and he then catches Cortana-Amy guard completely. "Cortana, transfer yourself to the garage location, monitor alarms, and stay active there all night, return here tomorrow at 5 am" And she finds herself saying "Of course Dan" before she suddenly winks into nothingness, or so it seems, and then winds up being on a screen in a dark warehouse, somewhere else. OH shit, he transferred his AI to a remote computer, which means she Amy is now trapped in the AI in some location and who knows where she is, where Genie is, and how long she is stuck like this!
