It was early in the morning when Chase and Elaine were battling it out for ownership of the Viridian Gym. The battle had been going on for almost ten minutes, and they were down to only one Pokémon each. Chase's Blaziken and Elaine's Metagross.
Blaziken brought a Fire Punch down on the Steel Type's head, causing it to stagger.
"Give up, Elaine. This Gym will belong to Team Valor!"
As the Fire Type went for a second punch, the Metagross used Explosion and took them both out.
"Oh, come on!" he screamed dropping his switch onto his bed. Despite having owned Pokémon Go for nearly a year, he'd only managed to claim three Gyms.
"Chase! Elaine!" his mom called up. "It's almost time!"
He was so caught up in the battle simulator, he completely lost track of time.
As quickly as he could, he got dressed in his red and white shirt, and blue shorts. Though he nearly tripped down the stairs, as he tried getting his shoes on at the same time.
"I got your bags all packed, so you don't need to worry about that."
"Thanks, mom." they said together.
In truth, she and Elaine weren't related. She was just living there because her dad moved to the Sevii Islands, and he didn't want to rob her of the chance of being a Trainer. Chase knew that she planned to visit him when she became skilled enough.
"Forgot something!" Chase ran back upstairs, grabbing the Pokéflute he found in the tallmgrass a week ago.
"You'd forget your own head if it wasn't screwed on tight." They laughed at that.
When they reached Oak's Lab, Trace was already there waiting.
"Nice battle, this morning. Nearly had it that time."
Chase glared at him with a smile. "I'll get another one of these days."
"Oh, are you three here already?" Oak questioned from the doorway. "Well, come on in."
Following him, they watched as he placed three Poké Balls on a table.
"One of these three Pokémon will be your first step on your journey. Who's going to choose first?"
"Trace, you were here first." Elaine spoke up, "But why not let Chase go first? It was his birthday, yesterday."
"Yea, that's fair."
Without needing to think, he lunged with passion in his heart as he chose... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
