You'd never met what is colloquially known as an “Islander,” nor seen one up close. Unlike humans, they tended to live a reclusive existence far away from any human settlements, secluded on remote islands where vast oceans and untamed wilderness kept them hidden from the world.
In fact, were it not for several world-changing events that reshaped global headlines and sparked endless debates, you would've never even heard of them outside of niche videos on the internet, often dismissed as vague curiosities or elaborate pranks.
Ever since the destruction of Station Square, however, there had been a noticeable uptick in sightings of these strange island-dwelling animal people in news reports—notably of one in particular, a blue hedgehog whose feats of speed and bravery captured the public's imagination.
You could still vividly remember the day it happened, as if it were yesterday: the classroom you were in, filled with the hum of anxious whispers, how every news station was tuned to the unfolding destruction no matter which channel you flipped to. Back then, your eyes were glued to the screen even more than most of your classmates, transfixed by the chaos and the glimpses of those enigmatic figures intervening. You're pretty sure that moment awakened something deep within you—a curiosity, perhaps, or a sense of wonder about worlds beyond your own.
Ever since then, every few years, something world-changing would erupt onto the scene, only to get resolved almost immediately through mysterious means, allowing life to return to business as usual with barely a ripple left behind.
You'd lost count of the bizarre incidents: how many giant death fortresses had loomed ominously in the sky, casting shadows over entire cities; the time the moon was sliced in half, the world breaking apart in seismic upheavals only to miraculously reassemble itself; and then there was that eerie purple moon that had appeared out of nowhere, hurtling toward Earth with catastrophic intent before vanishing just as suddenly. What was even up with that?
Now, interest in the Islanders has surged to the point where even your friends are talking about it nonstop, mostly in lively online chat rooms and during heated game lobbies, where theories fly back and forth.
There are persistent rumors that they may even be opening the doors to human visitors sometime soon, hinting at a new era of discovery and interaction.
