Dim Embers of Desire

An abstract poem. Regional Winner in the National High School Poetry Contest

Clothed by hatred,
sheltered by fear.
Afraid of everything
others hold dear.

Misunderstood
but a symbol of hope.
Spirit of sadness
strug'ling to cope.

Shadow without an owner,
thoughts without a mind.
Soul forever searching
for others of its kind.

Never trusted, never found,
Never knowing black from white.
Never seen, never heard,
Pushing forth an endless plight.

Ashes left from fire,
Raindrop in the wind.
Lost petal of a flo'er
wishing for a friend.
