Shell Cottages

We old mermaids
don't build castles in the sky,
but shell cottages
at the edge of the sea.
We have made sanctuaries
for womyn carrying
their wyse womb-blood within.
Here there is time
for all the nothing
we have wanted to try,
no argument, only trust,
and the power of whimsy.
We may indulge
our extra shining senses
and find safe space to practice
invisibility,
constant kindness,
and the pull
to turn our faces
always toward the sun.
