For the 55 words or less contest

"Where have you been?" he hissed as she crept up the stairs.

Shocked, she sputtered, "I was just visiting Maryann."

He charged, knocking her down the stairs. Before blacking out, she saw her neighbor mouthing "Sorry."

Little did she know that Maryann had stopped by to check if she was alright after her last beating.
