An author and poet,
A dancer and actress,
And a social activist;
Chasing the dream of equality for all.
Beginning a life in difficult times
Building herself from the ashes
Of racial discrimination
And childhood molestation.
Her strength drove her;
Fueled her to find her way
To strive for greatness
And pave the way
For other black women
To stand up
And claim their place.
To shake off societal confinement
And reach for more
To make this world a better place
For all women.
Her magnetic personality
A beacon for those
Who saw her make it
And knew they could do it too.
