Avoiding Winter {January 2026}


In subtropical Florida
you can hope to avoid winter
but Mother Nature dwells here
in different robes and forms.
Tomorrow is the Snow Moon
or Hunger Moon.
Snow isn;t likely
but there is hunger for some.
Chaos is the new reality in our streets.
Tonight I will pray
my mother's crystal rosary beads
and tie a scarf outside for Brigid
that ancient, feral, wily pagan goddess.
I will ask the Great Mystery
to bind all evil
and imagine there is harmony
while huddling in my cave
avoiding the winter in my heart.
