This blog keeps me in touch with WDC. Jamesdillingham.com keeps me in touch elsewhere.
I like to stay in touch with WDC, even when I'm not contributing on a daily basis. My main blog is at jamesdillingham.blogspot.com

I am having editor's block. Is that real? I have no idea. I am looking at a giant stack of reviews and I can't seem to reach the top one.

Damn it Jim! I'm just a doctor.

I digress...the pile is there taunting me.

Maybe tomorrow.

I wrote a poem this morning. It was nothing special other than I wrote it. Poetry is not really my thing. When I first started to write, I wrote poetry. I considered writing a book called Poetry for Men. In it, everything would rhyme and all of the subject matter would have to do with sports or food or women; basic, drag-your-knuckles-on-the-ground type stuff. That was a few years ago. Maybe I will do that still. It is a small matter to publish a book for a Kindle on amazon.com

I also thought about publishing a cookbook for single men. Every recipe would start with rice and Campbell's Nacho Cheese soup. From there, you would just add stuff. Admittedly, not very creative but with that base, everything tastes great!

I need to write the Epilogue for Part 1 of my book. I have been a little "under the weather" for the last couple of days so I let it go. Now, I am back in the saddle. I need to crank that out before I start the editing. I hope to finish it today.

My consulting firm is starting to put video on its website. We also put the same video's on youtube. If you want to see me in action, go to www.youtube.com and type in the keywords "sleep" "comparison" posted by TheShiftworkExperts. It should be the first one that pops up. We will be posting a lot of these.

Today I finish Chapter 19 of my novel. There will be a chapter 20 but it is essentially a mini-epilogue that wraps up part 1 and sets up part 2.

My dog walks over for some pets...he uses mind control to try and make me take him for a walk. Maybe in a little while.

I have printed out the editorial comments for my novel from the last month. There are 43 pages! I hope to get through these this week.

I miss my Daily Flash Fiction stories but I have to give the novel priority for now.

Today, my portfolio got its 14,000th view! Every one has been such a rush, it makes me want to just write and write and write.

Next milestones...

Finish first draft of Part 1 of my novel aware...by September 1st (20 chapters or about 50,000 words for Part 1)
Finish rework of first half...by end of September
Get an agent for book... by end of October

By mid-September...write my 200th entry for Daily Flash Fiction Challenge (I have 10 to go)

Once again, thanks to those of you that have reviewed one or more of my chapters in my book. I will be using all of your inputs during my first round of editing early Sept.

I am still in Hungary but should arrive home (my other home) in California this coming Monday evening.

I am currently in Biatorbagy, Hungary visiting my wife. Today, Sunday, is the last day of a 4-day national weekend. Last Thursday was their national birthday. The way they get Thursday and Friday off is to call Thursday a holiday and then Friday is off but "paid back" a week later when they work Saturday. Interesting.

Anyway, I need to finish the first half of my novel during the next 9-10 days. That will give me about 20 chapters, or 50,000 words. The novel will have 2 parts to it. If I can get the chapters written and edited/corrected, I can then start to shop around for an agent. My understanding is that most agents want a first time writer to submit a manuscript that is at least 50% complete.

Goals: Have an agent by the end of the September and finish the novel by Christmas. I also want to get to 200 Daily Flash Fiction entries. That is my favorite contest because it makes me write daily.

I am in San Diego for my annual reunion with old navy buddies. Actually, most of the people we all meet with each August never were in the Navy. Yesterday was golf and giant dinner party. Today is golf and a movie. Tomorrow is breakfast and a flight home. I look forward to this all year. A lot of fun.

This coming Tuesday, I go to Hungary for 2 weeks to visit my wife. She works so I am basically on my own during the day. Lots of writing time.

I would like to thank those of you that have spent so much time looking through my novel over the last few weeks.
Today, I am going to buckle down and move that thing along. I am in the middle of Chapter 12 and I would like to be done with Chapter 15 by this coming Tuesday.

I am heading to Hungary for the last two weeks of the month. While my wife is at work, I will stay home with Echo, a chocolate lab (she is a good girl!) and work on editing the back chapters. For now, I need to move forward.

No distractions...only writing.

Okay...maybe I will slip in a Daily Flash Fiction entry but no more.

Wow! My port was really hit yesterday. Thanks to Annie for some of her publicity.

Also thanks to fulldazegal She read all 11 of my book chapters.

For some reason, many people that read my book find that it is filled with coincidences for them. The dates or names or locations mean something. I would like to hear more about this if it happens to you. What's weird is that the book is sci-fi with a spiritual slant...sort of like Stranger in a Strange Land. 2012 is somehow involved. I have always thought of this book as a message to myself but now...who knows.

Anyway, I would love to hear about any coincidences that people have anywhere in their lives. If I get enough, maybe I will publish a book on them. Please be brief but concise. I would like to know what happened and how you interpret the meaning, if any. Please pass this along to others. At the very least, I would like to publish an electronic book of these. I have two electronic books out there now. They are easy to make and cost nothing.

So there you have it ... a challenge. Send me those coincidences and lets make something out of them. You can send them to me here or at my email Jim@shift-work.com.

Back to my book.

Wow!

My port seems to be getting a lot of hits today. It's noon WDC time and there have already been 52 views! Many of them have been views of my blog. That surprises me as there is not anything especially interesting in these posts. I mostly make entries so I can go back and look at "history" from time to time. Maybe I should post a guest book so I can see who comes by. When people read my stuff, I would like to return the favor.

First of all, thanks to Annie for all of the detailed reviews she has given me lately. This is especially true when it comes to my novel in progress.

Work ...real world work, continues to be slow which is normal for the summer. So far I have just goofed off and I intend to continue that. I have been to Austria for two weeks with my wife (who lives in Budapest). I just got back from a romp with my jeep in the Nevada outback for a week. The weekend after this I go to San Diego for a long weekend of golf/reunion with old navy buddies. The last two weeks of August, I am back in Budapest visiting the wife.

My work usually picks up in the fall. I like having the summer off but, I am an assistant wrestling coach at the local high school. It always seems that I am traveling away on work with the season gets here. Alas...if only I could make a living by writing.

I am a little over two weeks away from a milestone in writing. I will soon have 200 entries for the Daily Flash Fiction Challenge. I will have to do something special for Arakun the Twisted Raccoon since she had to read all of those stories.

My daily writing consists of: (1) working on something professional. This week it is a newsletter; next week some webpage stuff (2) An entry into the Flash Fiction contest (3) work on my novel and (4) reviewing.

I am also working on my Hungarian. That language is impossible.

Jim
