Brief insights into my writing world. |
I started my blog in June 2016, intending to have a place to get my stories in the hands of readers. I started with one follower -- my wife. Seven years later, I am creeping toward 500 followers. I post a daily quote, as well as short stories, vignettes, and updates on our rebuilding project. You can find my Tavern Tales at: https://jjshaun.com/ Enjoy! |
And so it began, 990 days after we lost our home. Finally. Despite the rainy forecast, the company decided that now is the time to move our house. Read the full post here: https://jjshaun.com/2023/07/09/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-143/ |
The word of the week is anticipation. I received a phone call from one of our community members letting me know the schedule for the upcoming house move. Read the full post here: https://jjshaun.com/2023/07/02/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-142/ |
Last week, First Reader commented I wrote a nice weather report. She isn’t wrong since that’s been our biggest hold up since October. No wonder we don’t have our house yet. Read the full post here: https://jjshaun.com/2023/06/25/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-141/ |
Yesterday, WordPress congratulated me for seven years of blogging. My first post was a brief statement about my site, Tavern Tales, being under construction. Almost two weeks later, I added another post—this time with more of an introduction to me as a writer, and my original intentions for my blog. This week saw more progress on our house. The framing crew was up at the property on Tuesday, but ran into a few mechanics problems with a couple of their trucks. First, the young fellow who came last week to measure for materials neglected to tell his crew about our driveway's steepness and condition. So, the truck that delivered the materials did not have trailer brakes. That, and one pickup arrived onsite with a pinhole in the radiator hose. Consequently, the job didn’t get started until Wednesday. Read the full post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/06/04/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-138/ |
Mr. Sub-Contractor contacted me on Wednesday morning with pictures of snow patches covering the ground where the slab was to be poured. Temperatures were hovering near freezing. Read the full post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/05/14/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-135/ |
Imagine our surprise when all meetings with Mr. Contractor fell through this week. All is not lost, though. He hired a reliable sub-contractor who will get the job done. Read the full post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/05/07/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-134/ |
Theoretically, Mr. Contractor will be on the property tomorrow to get some additional measurements before getting started on the rest of our building. Theoretically. I’ll believe it when I see it. Read the full blog post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/04/30/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-133/ |
It’s getting harder to update the same ol’ post every week, but here we go: No progress on our house—still. Read the full blog post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/04/23/rebuilding-the-dream-pt-132/ |
It seems Mother Nature can’t quite make up her mind. Last Friday, it snowed most of the day, and we got a few inches of the wet, heavy white stuff. Most of it had melted by Saturday afternoon as the daytime temperatures warmed up once more. Read the entire post at: http://jjshaun.com/2023/04/20/warmth-at-last/ |
