Being Retired now, I thought that it was time for a new name to this Blog

Talk about perks, my career had one of the best I can think of! I traveled in the course of business, delivering classes for my employer. I was a Senior Training Specialist for Motorola Solutions, and taught classes on a wide variety of subjects centered around 2-way radio communications. I knew that when the time arrived that I would retire, and I have. I've always said that if you can't stand the heat in the kitchen, get out! I can't handle the heat anymore. I was qualified to deliver approximately 32 different classes, but about half of those were 'Legacy' classes, and were not in demand anymore. My students were technicians, those who maintained, programmed, calibrated, and repaired large 2-way radio systems. Some of these systems are statewide, and use TCP-IP networking to allow sites to communicate with others. Some are small, traditional type radio sites. The size doesn't matter, in each case the systems must be kept operational at all times, since many of them are Public Safety Systems. So I traveled, sometimes frequently, 3-4 weeks in a row.... where have I been?

Some of the places I've been (I can't list them all here, the list would be too long) are pretty interesting.

         1. Hawaii - Four times, Oahu, Maui (twice), and the Big Island
         2. BangkokThailand, twice
         3. Frankfurt Germany, twice
         4. Algiers, Algeria
         5. Melbourne Australia
         6. Bismarck North Dakota, Summer & Winter
         7. Los Angeles, Too many times to count
         8. Washington DC, Too many times to count
         9. Seattle three or four times
         10. Texas, all over the state
         11. Florida, all over the state
         12. New Mexico, HOME! Several times

The Surgery Follow-up & Pulling Weeds

Wednesday was the two-week checkup after the recent back surgery. I still think of it as minor, I always will. After all, anytime I can check-in at 8 am, and be home by 4 pm, it's minor surgery. Even if he did enlarge the hole that the nerve exits from on my spinal cord at the L5 Vertebrae.

I've had a bit of pain on my back, left side, near the Kidney. I know what I did though.

Our new Campervan did not have a jack, lug wrench, or the tool used to lower the Spare Tire from beneath the van. I learned this when the shop installed 4 new tires on the van. So, I ordered them from a website, and they arrived about Monday last week. The box weighs about 15-20 lbs or so, and I moved it into the house. Wrong thing to do. In bending over to pick it up, I didn't use proper lifting techniques, plus it was heavier than I should have lifted. I'm not surprised I developed that pain. I did rub it one night, that wasn't good. It hurt a bit afterwards. Now understand something please. This hurt was an ache, more aggravating than anything else. The bad thing was, it would keep me awake. When the doctor examined me, she prescribed a Prednisone Steroid pack. You know, take 6 tablets the first day, then 5, and so on, until you're at 1, and it's done. Because the prescription was never placed, I didn't start them until this morning. But all's well, and I'm on my way in taking them.

Today, my bridewife decided we (I)should pull and/or cut the weeds that have taken over the small area behind our garage. (That area is fenced a little to keep Buddy out of it.) Some of her flowers are back there, mainly Lilies. That spot is a jungle! Anyway, I cut until my back pleaded with me to stop. After I stopped cutting weeds, I realized that a lot of them could be pulled. Did I exert more strength that that required to lift 15 lbs? Yeah, I'm pretty sure I did. Still, I worked more until my back begged me to take a break. I stopped for the day and dragged the tarp they are on to the curb. Being sweaty and exhausted, it was shower time.

Our bathroom sink drain has been draining very slowly. Third time this year! I decided I would plunger it. What's that you say? You can't plunger a bathroom sink because of the overflow hole? Don't be so easily misled, or defeated. I simply plugged that hole with a finger, and plungered with one hand. I expected it to drain a little faster. I did not expect the drain to 'cough up' a hairball! A hairball with a somewhat hard center. I pulled the hair off and it seemed to be a small hunk of meat! WTH? I know that wasn't in the drain due to me, she claimed innocence too, so I'm putting it down to PFM. But hey, the sink now drains normally!
