One writer's journey |
| The Olympics, have been going on for 13 days now, how do you feel about the coverage-- the variety of primetime events, the announcers? "Blogging Circle of Friends Prompt Forum" I absolutely love the Olympics. My favorite events are figure skating, speed skating and the moguls. I won’t lie, I keep wishing NBC would lose the Olympics and another station would air them. While I love getting background information on American athletes, I find that their coverage of a select few makes it hard to watch. If you’re going to introduce us to our athletes, you could easily filter in segments and additional information throughout the events. I was one of the lucky ones who live close enough to Canada that we get CBC here. That always made the Olympics more fun to watch because they showed EVERYTHING, not just what American stations chose to showcase. Unfortunately, that network isn’t available on YouTube TV, and I am really missing it this time around. I adore Tara Lipinski and Johnny Weir during the figure skating events. They are funny and provide facts about all the Olympians competing. I know a lot of people find them annoying, but they give you technical information about the jumps, why they ranked the way they did, and when any athlete falls or has a mishap, you feel their genuine heartbreak. I understand they must show their commercials in prime time, that’s how the network gets paid, but being able to see all the athletes compete introduces those watching to the up-and-comers. If I can watch it live, I usually go that route and use the prime-time window for events I may have missed. On a side note, seeing Snoop Dog on TV night after night is nauseating. Seriously, his claim to fame is music and smoking pot. They could do better. Like Scotty Hamilton, Apollo Ohno, Peekaboo, Shaun White, etc, are all at the Olympics. Why aren’t they given these segments? They can relate. They’ve been there in the past and understand the pressure. Seeing them given ten seconds here and there is such a waste. That’s my two cents! |
