Mostly, though, it's more like correcting some punctuation, spelling, etc. and what I see as awkward construction.
I always make it very clear that this isn't necessary the "right" way to write the poem--just my own ideas, take them or leave them.
Generally, I don't even do this unless it needs lots of work; there are one or more glaring spelling errors (or something else such as a typo that needs to be pointed out).
Anyway, I make sure that the poet knows that this is his/her baby and that he/she can leave it absolutely the same, in case there's a personal reason for it.
I once wrote a poem in rhyme--a humorous one, no less--and I had this one guy trying to take all of the rhyme out of it.
He was one of those people who thought that rhythm and rhyme belonged back in the 19th Century or something. It was as if he'd never heard of light verse before.
He decided that I was hopeless and didn't want to spend any more time reading my poetry. In fact, he actually got angry at me for what he perceived as cluelessness.
I don't have time to go into the whole story here, but there's more to this story than what I've written--stuff that showed this guy to have been very inconsiderate (though I would have overlooked his being "inconsiderate"--chalking it up to his having a good reason to be, because he did--had he just been more civil to me).
First off, you made a typo writing "and edge" when you meant "an edge."
But this poem is really BEYONDbeautiful!!!
My personal beliefs are that the end of one age will just mean a new beginning of another, so life will go on in ways that are so perfectly-wonderful that we can't even begin to imagine them!!!
Yet, there are many ends of many ages, and this poem is a reminder to us to not take the beauty of the place in life where we happen to be now for granted!
It won't be long before I write on this subject, and I'll make a link to this poem from there when I get it finished!
Sixteen years and a few days ago, another seven of a diversified group were taken from us! It's been said that God often sends other souls to greet newcomers into Eternity--so I wonder if the seven of 2003 were greeted by the seven of 1986!!!
