a poem involving a conceit between an army and the written word |
| A Different Kind of Army They line up, a little army, Each soldier different, oddly shaped, Yet they flow perfectly together And an ideal comp'ny make When the reader calls "Sound off!" As they march across each page. The intrepid General Chapter One Begins this fine parade, And Major Indent proudly puffs his chest, Leading each brigade. Sergeant Capital Letter calls "Left-to-right-left!" As they march across each page. These strong and gallant soldiers March to the great war of the age To battle boredom and ignorance With determined, righteous rage- All this inside the reader's head As they march across each page. |
