In my view, the primary focus should be on encouraging the writers to write. I do not review items I don't enjoy anymore because I see it as a waste of my time. So, if you get a review from me, I enjoyed reading your work. The amazing thing about this whole process is that reading an inspiring review usually leads to me reading more of a reviewer's work also. So, it's a win-win.

something I do not like. I do not enjoy writing hyper-critical reviews. I do NOT believe that "honesty" is a synonym for "mean." If I see someone being "mean" here on the public reviewing page, in group behaviors, or just acting as a bully I will not send them my reviews. The only exception to that would be judging a site contest - there all items get honest (and hopefully diplomatic) reviews of the work from me with no exceptions.

I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen. It brought me to your fine poem and I decided to read and send a review.

Mowing the lawn is something I can definitely relate to. I did it for us and for my parents for many years and it definitely brings back a lot of memories.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

In the first stanza, you talk about appearance, the uniform you wear. The shoes being stiff and small really took me back in time. I would hop around in mine until they gave way because I cannot stand tight shoes.

Shades of brown and especially green sounds about right. I think that mine started out white and when they got green enough they were shifted to the mowing exercise. Sometimes I would accidentally get stains and a pair would be shifted sooner rather than later.

The second stanza involves attention to gathering and maintaining the equipment. I remember my Dad taking care of the maintenance part. The lawnmower I used was a self-propelled Toro so easier once it got rolling along.

The third stanza deals with the inevitable struggle at times to start the thing. Boy it felt good when it all kicked and the engine would purr.

Your last stanza really captures the part of the process I loved the most, without spelling it out. That was being able to see where I'd been and see where I needed to go - measure progress.

It was boring, at times, and tiring, but rewarding too.

I think you have captured that very well here ~

You definitely took me back to my younger days, when life was a lot simpler somehow.

It made me want to watch the Lily James version again to see how it compares. You did a good job in drawing your comparisons and explaining the significance of things.

I'm with you in thinking that Disney has it right. You wrote this in 2005 and updated in 2016, but you say it was an essay for class.

Did you do any comparison to the Lily James version of the movie? I liked that a lot and I was trying to remember if that was similar to this Disney version or not.

I remember the step sisters being very lazy and Cinderella's father being very kind. He would never have left her in that situation if he had known what would happen.

Also, to me the mice friends make a big difference in how I see Cinderella because they are objective, on-the-scene observers of all the behaviors.

I enjoyed reading this and I think you did a fine job so you definitely deserved that "A" in the paper and for the class!

I like how you reveal the relationship with the father and sister through first person observation. An intervention seems like the only way fences might be mended.

I noticed this one paragraph, sort of in the middle, about 16 paragraphs or so down from the top. You have:

"n any event, my husband, whose other hobby is keeping me out of stores, wouldn’t dare turn stand in my way if I told I mentioned I was meeting my sister at the outlet mall...."

The word "turn" should be "try to" and "I told" should be removed. *Checkgr*

I especially like the idea of time travel and divine intervention mixed together. What could be a better purpose for a visit? To help and guide seems like something that would give meaning to any life, even a royal one.

I enjoyed reading your story. Hope my suggestions about the minor edits are helpful. I like the voice you use and the wry humor that is laced throughout. Getting along with family is a pretty universal dilemma of the historical and modern world. In other words, it's timeless.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

I thought about all the bad behavior during the pandemic and the desire to get away, but being afraid to go. The great outdoors sounds pretty good in comparison.

This was pretty prescient. Written back in spring 2020, I'm not sure many thought the recurring lockdowns would last for so long and lead to some big changes along the way.

In hindsight a lot of the behaviors seem bizarre and even unbelievable. From the date, you even wrote this before the riots took hold.

I sort of suspected that telling someone about it (thus telling many since it was a reporter) would be the beginning of the end as some unwelcome company would inevitably join the narrator. You know how people play follow the leader sometimes with the Internet and the Newsmedia.

Well done - very intriguing tale, with a clever title. Mr. Rogers seems like a creature from the faraway past.

I thought about all the dumb things that I did when I was young and how I bet that there are things about our kids and grandkids that we will thankfully never know.

I saw this one typo in the 5th paragraph up from the end: "Her parents were going to be home in a few short hours and if she didn't have this place spotless by the time she got back, she might as well start looking into joining a convent...

The highlighted word "she" should be changed to "they" in this context.

What does tHiNg applaud about while reading your item?

This is so true to the age. The fact that she was thinking of attending this horrible gathering the following year (at another location that took less of a toll on her in a work sense) proves that no lesson had been learned. *Laugh*

Oh, the resilience of youth. This fills me with horror at my advanced age.

TO me, this was about being in a predicament where one is forced to lie to the self to have the strength to carry on.

The countdown part was chilling. It created an atmosphere of apprehension and foreboding. I wasn't sure if it was a chance to run or something else, maybe the perpetrator didn't want to carry through with it after all.

I liked the steady feeling throughout that the ending was somehow preordained. It felt like destiny took hold, but with a slight room for regret at not being able to change things or even fully understand the circumstances.

I thought about how we all are made up of these experiences that become memories, enhanced by family descriptions and tale over the years. We all are the sum of many parts, I reckon, whether having traveled (as is the case here) or staying put.

I loved the part about the "still" protective dog, whose instinct was to remain quiet and prevent a treacherous fall. Having that weight on the back upon waking, one's first inclination might very well be to move.

I wonder if the Greyhound busses still run. It's been a long time since I thought of one and what it meant to travel back in the good old days before cell phones ruined the world.

Wonderfully memorable poetry, I'd say.

What does tHiNg think about while perusing your item?

I thought the title was appropriate. We all change as we age. I would like to think that there is a lot of wisdom that comes with it, but I see things that cause me to not be as confident as I once might have been on that score.

Also, I question more of what I am told, but I learn to do it quietly because not everyone gets to the same level of understanding at the same point in life.

I identified strongly with the caterpillar analogy. Then the analogy of being cauterized in the end. I guess we all get to that point sooner or later.

Also, enjoyed the reference to "wisdom of time". That begs the question whether it is the time or the experience that brings the wisdom part. Some of both, I would imagine. Once in a while things are gradual and sort of sneak up on one.

Fine, thought provoking work as always.

I like that this gets you to write and think about a work that you love (Alice in Wonderland) and thinking about comparisons and how things are done and how you have enjoyed reading and imagining based on this work.

I know people who dread autumn. It is my favorite time of year.

I like how you switched it up and made autumn seem like a time of rebirth and rejuvenation. That is often reserved for spring following winter. I think autumn can be a renewal time too and a time to replenish strength to face the winter.

Lovely poem - I enjoyed reading it very much! I am looking forward to that season as well! Not a bad summer though so far, I have to moo.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

You can't go wrong with a bear in a stylish sweater. I thought this was delightful. This morning I was treated to a video of Queen Elizabeth II and Paddington Bear. With bears, the cuteness is part of the package.

I liked the suggestion of knitted socks, too. This is a bear who thinks ahead.

I especially liked how this flowed and that the bear was named, "Mary". That made me smile as it was my mother's name. This made me smile all the way through and I think you did a fine job with the rhyme.

Koalas are adorable, non-threatening bears.

This was my favorite part:

"Then she would have to wear glasses,👓
Have a daily dose of molasses.
She disliked the taste
Would screw up her face
Leave her tree and go roll in the grasses."

Wonderfully imaginative - well done for children of ALL ages!

They teach us so much, don't they? Mine did as well with her quiet ways. We are each so different and sometimes if there is an absence of nurturing in one generation another tries to make up for it.

*Cool**Idea*I thought about how choosing to be kind seems like the obvious choice in life to me. But you never know what experiences drives other people to be bullies.

I enjoyed the third stanza the most:

Bullies don't like to be disagreed with and it's in the news more and more these days.

*Cool**Idea*Finding the way to peaceful thoughts is the daily challenge in modern times.

There are so many things pulling us one way or another. It is good to have a faith to turn to and organize one's thoughts to be more calming and comforting.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I especially like the 3rd stanza about restorative thoughts to soothe after busy, confusing days.

Sometimes it is good to just close our eyes and say a quiet prayer.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I thought about betrayal and its consequences, which can be quite far reaching. This applies to all sorts of betrays, not just the broken contract with nature and the environment.

When you see signs of human presence in nature, there is inevitable decay, but sometimes there is an effort to preserve and help, too. We don't always know the right way to go about it, is all.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I liked especially the notion that fairies still play and frolic in the darkling woods. I took this to be a sign of hope. If humans generally ever get a clue, things might get better.

You wrote this a long time ago and it is even more true today. That makes it pretty much timeless so far as mankind has not gotten more careful about things. I guess nature got a break (of sorts) from humans during the pandemic.

I liked that your print is big enough for me to see it without eye strain.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

I think that some only hear what they want to hear and not their own noise. I don't know why that is.

July 4 a lot of people around here shoot fireworks and some even shoot guns I think. It's scary when I am in my home and I hear all that going on. I don't mind, but they do it on other days, too, sometimes it seems like every weekend in the summer and that's a little much.

*Thumbsup*I "quietly" liked that she wished and he got a taste of what it was like to be sensitive to others, even if it was for a short time

Wishes are interesting because spontaneous expression here could lead to trouble later.

*Cow*I clicked on the Read and Review option on the left side of the screen and it brought me to a heartwarming and inspirational tale about a certain penguin named, Penny.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*I was cheering for Penny and hoping she would meet her soulmate the whole time.

It made me identify with her in her quest and in how she longed for that, which she would eventually find.

My only suggestion is technical - you might want to enlarge the print as it makes it easy on the eyes to do so. Sometimes the small sprint discourages me. It didn't here and I was glad.

Fine storytelling!

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

The fact that they are both shy (Manny and Penny) makes it all the more touching and romantic.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*I enjoyed the suspense and action in this very much. I will do my best not to give away the plot.

A couple escaping from danger, under life and death pressure, finds each other. There is an attraction that surfaces in spite of a precarious and unknown future.

Fighting to survive creates a lot of pressure for the characters so it seems that the senses are heightened and everything that they feel emotionally is ramped up quite a bit.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I like that Chloe seems more concerned with James then she is with other things.

Still, to be with him certain things must happen. Practical things like getting away. Finding each other at such a time seems major and secondary all at the same moment.

I enjoyed your descriptions of the action and the feelings.

If only world peace were based on as much sense as shown here, it would be a fact. But humans are not cats and dogs and have much less sense.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I especially like how you changed the ending so that it seems like the cat is in charge. I think letting the dog out causes a lot of the trouble, but welcoming the cat in seems much more conducive to the goal of World Peace.

What does hoovsie think about while perusing your item?

*Cool**Idea*I thought about bullies I have dealt with over the years. They reinforce the meanness in each other when you get a group of them together.

I like what the mother says and how the daughter finally listens to the wise advice. The best way to deal with bullies has yet to be found though, since there are so many who choose to be mean to others they perceive as different somehow or weak.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?

I like how the story is told in dialogue between the characters. It reads quite naturally and makes it flow very well.

You always hope that at least one in a group of bullies like this will ultimately grow a conscience, but that might be too much to hope for.

*Cool**Idea*I thought about how, when traveling, we always agonize about the weather. Some of us do that for good reason because something like this can happen rather quickly when temperatures plunge.

What does hooves moo and applaud about while reading your item?I especially liked the flow of the third stanza:

"As they slowed down and looked all around,
the autos were distant and few.
Then they discovered their traction was not--
theirs was an icy milieu."

That is a coherent and excellent summary of the predicament they face.
