A Spirited Tale

I thought I saw a ghost last night,
a shape behind the moon.
It was a dreadful eerie sight,
and whistled a merry tune.

I challenged it with brazen shout,
maintained I was not scared.
It flickered once and then went out,
and now I’m ashen-haired.
