| The Nautilus so Naughtilous I will tell you the tale of the nautilus, a peculiar beast that isn’t a fish, though it lives in the sea and knows octipus*, it is just a great shell that looks like a dish. Behind it is dragged many arms marvellous and right at its tail end a big eye stares out, because the thing goes always backwardious it sees where it’s gone but knows nothing about just where it’s going or matters futurious. It really must be the uncanniest sight, but don’t find it to be so hilarious, it’s lived millions of years and so must be right. * Spelled in this way to make the reader pronounce it as required. Since the little listeners are presumed too young to read, no harm will be done. Line Count: 12 Rhymed ababacacadad For The Daily Poem, July 26 2020 Prompt: Create a poem for children. |
