It looks like I'll be picking up the needed parts for my computer on Friday. My very awesome brother-in-law will be putting the new motherboard & memory in on Saturday, so I'll probably be back online (at home) this weekend! Hooray! |
Well, my computer's still dead and I have no idea when I'll be able to afford to get it back up and running, but in the meantime the local library has computers with internet access! I couldn't remember if it did, so I didn't want to get my hopes up just in case. My in-laws also have a computer, but I didn't want to be bothering them everyday. Now I can come here! I won't be in more than maybe once per day, though. ...I just read a sign here: "There is a 1 hour time limit to computer use especially if people are waiting." Hm... well, I guess I'll only have an hour at a time or something. I'm starting my job hunting today. I'm going everywhere I can think of to see if anyone's hiring. I don't care what it is. I just need a job! So far my options with the computer seem to be: 1. Replace the motherboard (new one is $90, plus I'd need a new memory thingy. I don't know how much that is) 2. Get a new CPU since mine is 5 years old and probably on its last legs, anyway. I wouldn't need the monitor, keyboard, etc., just the unit itself. The computer store here takes trade-ins, so I could get some credit for what I have, but I doubt it will be a lot since it's old. (and emachines are not reliable from what I hear) I have no idea how much it would cost to get a new one... I'm still waiting to hear from my brother-in-law's contact on getting a motherboard. He might be able to get it cheaper than the $90 one at the computer store. So for now, I'm focusing on getting a job. Wish me luck! |
The motherboard is dead. I don't know when I'll be back online. |
No PC. :( I tried to turn on my computer this morning and nothing happened. Luckily my brother-in-law is a computer expert. He thinks it's the power supply and he happens to have an extra one! (I'm at my sister's house now on her laptop) He's trying to install the new one now. Let's hope it works! If it doesn't, I'll probably be heading up to the computer store at the mall to buy a new power supply. I can't live without my computer! I know that's probably really sad, but it's true. I need it! Hopefully I'll be back later! :) |
I’ve always felt lucky with regards to my parents’ taste in music. I grew up listening to (and appreciating) classic rock. One memory in particular always stands out: My Dad and I shared a chiropractor and went a few times per week while I was in high school. Once on the way home, we heard the song “The Hurricane” by Bob Dylan on a classic rock station. When we got home, my dad got out the vinyl record and we listened to it together. Dad was into Dylan & Floyd mostly, while my Mom was more of a Tom Petty & John Mellencamp fan. I remember hearing Black Sabbath’s, “Iron Man” blasted (because the beginning of it scared Traci, lol). When I was little, I thought Johnny Cash’s, “Boy Named Sue” was the funniest song ever. I lived on Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, etc. The first album I owned myself was Bruce Springsteen’s, “Born in the USA.” When I went away to college, I borrowed Floyd’s, “Wish You Were Here,” so often, my parents bought me a copy of the CD for Christmas. So today when I was at my parents’ for a belated birthday dinner (and the best ice cream cake I’ve ever tasted!), when I said I was thinking of buying a Dylan CD but I wasn’t sure which one I should get, I truly appreciated my parents’ taste in music. My Dad gave me a stack of CDs to borrow. I feel lucky to grow up with such great music. Sure, at times I couldn’t stand it and I wanted something different, but I tend to go back to the classics quite often. Who we are is often shaped by those who raise us. So don’t blame me for being a rebel! Blame my parents! |
Every year (for three years now, anyway), Ivy and I take a photo of ourselves together on our birthday. Here is this year's photo: Invalid Photo #1013027 (the photos from the previous years are in that same photo album) We had such a blast last night! I'm so glad we went! I'm going through photos now, uploading and editing. I have over 60 that I'm going to edit, though the lighting wasn't ideal for the most part. I'll be uploading a few, I'm sure, to my concert photo album:

We were going to see LOA today, but I think we've changed our minds. Instead we're going to the Millenium Music Conference! Yeah! We went a few years ago and had a great time. A whole bunch of local bands are playing, some we've seen and some we haven't (plus City Sleeps! yay!), so I think we'll have fun tonight. I uploaded some pictures of my husband, in case anyone's curious. I gave him a mohawk this morning, so I just had to take a few photos! Enjoy! Invalid Photo #1013011 Invalid Photo #1013010 I just love boys with mohawks! |
I just gave my husband a mohawk! I'll see if he'll let me take a picture later so I can share his radness! I didn't end up going out at all last week... with the choice between the acoustic and punk show. I ended up really tired, so I didn't go out at all. Tonight, though, I'm planning on going out to see a local band, Lights Over Ashfield. They're amazing songwriters and very talented musicians. Check them out - https://www.myspace.com/lightsoverashfield I'm very excited! |
I've started a campfire! (It's for the Tourn-A-Rounds contest) I'm looking for a few fellow writers to help with it. There are very few rules, and short entries are great! Let me know if you'd like to help me out!

It's been a while since I seriously blogged here, and I think it's for two reasons: 1. I don't particularly like blogging. I think I prefer journaling, really. 2. I don't really have a job. Sure, I run my own magazine, but I don't make any money from it... I have a dilemma now. My sis and I were all set to go out to an acoustic show an hour's drive away tonight, but now I see that a punk band is playing in the very town I live in! I'm starting to really want to go to the punk band's show. It may very well be the first punk band to play at that club, and I'd like to show my support for them. Plus it's a choice between going out to see a band we've seen about a hundred times and meeting a new band. I'll have to see which Ivy feels like seeing tonight, though. She's the one who had a bad cold this week and needs the show to get back into things. Plus, we didn't get to celebrate our birthday yet! I can't help it... when the decision is between an acoustic show and a punk show, I want the punk show. That's the difference between Ivy and me - she prefers acoustic shows, I think. I like that about us. I like that we differ on music styles a little, so we end up covering a lot in our magazine. Speaking of which, our latest featured band is A Utopian Skyline, one of our absolute faves! Check 'em out - http://www.myspace.com/autopianskyline ...I mean, I think it would be a good idea to stick close to home tonight, in case Ivy's cold comes back or we get really tired or something... it'd be easier to go home... |
