Dear Me:

I'm writing this to let you know that you are important to God.
Your life may be full of bumps and bruises, but it all smooths out.
The years of wear and tear on your body are felt even now.
Just wanted you to know you're thought of and encourage you to continue on.
Me,
12-12-2032,
Pastor of Kessler Park Baptist Church.

What's one career you just could never do?

Shall I say it? Sanitation drivers and even those who pump out the potties.
Ah the very thought of it makes me ill.
Now I know it has to be done and I admire those who do that line of work.
It's hard for me to even at times to watch a gory scene on screen while eating.
The days and weeks that plod forward and onward are many.
All we can do is persevere and hang in there.
Till next we meet in the blogging circle, let me leave you with this.
In the grand scheme of things we all have tasks that require our attention.
Often times we are heard to complain, moan and groan, after all we are human.
Never before have I been more nauseous than when at a dump site.

Sanitation is one career I would not be able to handle but I do salute those who are able and persevere in the the midst of a job that has to be done. Thank you!

Write about your most cherished childhood memory.

Coming from a family filled with violence it's hard to pick one cherished moment.
However one thing that does come to mind is one I will always cherish.
Every day for many months I would turn on an old Magnus Chord Organ and practice playing my favorite Christmas song. Silent Night. I also learned how to play In the Ghetto during that time as well but Silent Night is still the most important to me.
These were the ones that had the numbers for you to follow as you play the songs. The first 4 keys were 5,6,5,3 which equaled Silent Night. To this day I can't tell you what the keys are but still I know how to place my fingers and play that series.
The reason it is so cherished to me is that in the time I was practicing that song I was surrounded by the violence that came from alcohol consumption and other forms of violence. While I was in the midst of practicing and playing that song however, I was at my most peaceful. To this day I get goose bumps when that song is played correctly and respectfully. I get rankled and agitated when it is spoofed or otherwise used in a derogatory manner also. So don't mess with Silent Night and i won't mess with any of your favorite musical renditions.
When the anger around me boiled over into confrontation I would bury myself in that song, being cushioned a little from the dysfunction that is caused by anger and the use of alcohol as a supposed sedative. Bah! Sedative my foot! It's a drug and drugs are addictive. Moderation gets lost in the midst of such libation. Oops. Sorry about the tangent. The point is the cherished moments I had learning Silent Night.

Why do you think you were born into this world?

Bubbles to blow and pop.
Ovens to bake cookies so I can smell them freshly made.
Revelation of His grace and love found in salvation. I will proclaim it forever more!
New opportunities to make a difference in the WdC and where I interact with others.

Born into the world. What a tip of the iceberg coverage. It's Saturday and we're getting our pictures taken for our 25th wedding anniversary today, one day before my birthday. Born into the world and life going on. Being involved or sitting on the sidelines. What about you beloved?

That would have to be a jigsaw puzzle that challenges my mind and keeps my hands busy for hours at a time.
Oh it takes time and persistence, then there's that inevitable missing piece in the end, but ah the satisfaction.
You against the little carved out pieces and the picture on the box lending a slight hint along the way.

Yep my favorite toy was a jigsaw puzzle, and even now I still enjoy the occasional puzzle.
'Nuff said!

If you could give any gift in the world, what would you give and to whom?

There is one gift that is all encompassing.
How can we but want to pass on such a gift as that?
Every single person is more than worthy of receiving this gift.

Giving it to just one person? For the sake of all it just has to be universal.
In other words it has to be re-giftable and forever fresh and new.
Feeling curious? Wondering what kind of gift lasts forever?
Then allow me to introduce you to the gift that warrants re-gifting.

The Gift of the LOVE of God found freely for all through His Son Jesus. His love for us is forever and always. When we have it in our hearts we cannot remain silent, we truly want to share the gift with others. We want them to know that God's love is the one gift that is fresh and new each and every morning we are blessed to greet on this planet we call Earth.

The Gift of sharing the Lord through whatever medium He enables us, is the gift this servant in Christ wishes to give to you who are reading this even now. How could I desire to hide His love in my heart and not let it out? To covet it so no one else knows about it? It is the one true gift that makes me want to share with others and that is why it is so all encompassing.
You are beloved!

One of my birthdays that I had to work is "the most surprised I've ever been . . ." In fact I wrote a poem about it for a contest and placed in it. I submit it here for your consideration and as my answer to the prompt.

t's My Birthday and I Worked!
by Steve Cope
my 54th Birthday story on 12-09-09
02-11-2010

It was my birthday three months ago
And as usual off to work I had to go.
Before that my wife did give me a present
Which makes the whole thing heaven sent.

I was not expecting a thing at work
Sometimes birthdays are put on the marquee
For all the world to see
But nope, I didn't even get a fork.

So into the hallway I walk to clock in
Looking up an envelope I do see, stuck on balloons with a pin.
Not sure if it's for me I make inquiry
And sure enough I got balloons and a card, wow that's coolie.

A lot of peeps signed the card
And to stop from crying it was hard.
It wasn't over yet don't you see
I had one more surprise over the PA, oh me!

Happy birthday they did sing,
Let me say for most singing was not their thing.
But when it was all said and done
I did have some fun.

I was checking the customers out
And I did have to stifle a pout.
Cause I'm a softy ti's true
And my favorite color is blue.

It was my birthday and I worked
Before I did go the wife did make me dinner
And when I got to work I was surprised, but not any thinner.
Because it was my birthday and my co-workers efforts worked.

There was no marquee sign
Documenting a birthday of mine;
But in the end when all was said and done;
From home, to sleep, to awake, to work, I had so much fun.

What is your greatest regret? You cannot change the past, but if you could, what would you do differently?

Waiting until I was aged 40 to accept Jesus into my heart as my Lord and Savior. I had not realized that was the case. In fact I was in the Seminary at the time studying to serve Him in the pastorate.
I was working at a Christian construction company and regularly busted out in a song of praise on the job site, just to pass the time with the work I was doing. It was so spontaneous and often many commented on how good a voice I had.
On particular day I was singing a song that began with the line "sorry it took so long Lord. . . " and it turns out that one of the co-workers who heard me singing was effected by the song as well. I think he realized that he too was not saved after all.
The long and short of it is that the following Sunday morning while singing in the choir that I'd sung in for a couple of years before changed my life for the better. I heard the pastor say something I'd heard him say a million times before. "If you will ask Him, He will forgive you of your sins." Boom baby! I could not wait for the invitation to come. In fact when I did come down to speak with the pastor he thought I was just rededicating my life.
I corrected that assumption by telling him and the congregation that this was a first time confession and asking Him to come into my heart. A week later I was baptized and I still have the photo of that baptism today. A difference was born that day. That difference was JOY. Not just the human joy we all feel from time-to-time. This JOY is the one that comes from knowing you are never alone and the joy of knowing we are now a part of the family of God; joint heirs through Christ Jesus. Now that's JOY@@@!!!!!!!!!@@@@@!!!!
Regrets? I've had a few. Now there's one less regret I have because it all started anew when I was saved way back then.
You are important to God; your family; the WdC and Copenator out! BA, MDiv
P.S. It was my MDiv I was working on when I realized I was not saved. I heard His call to learn more about Him in 1987 but it was a good while after when the salvation event occurred.

What is your most prized possession?

Please beloved lend me your ears/eyes.
Real is this possession and dear to my heart.
In the days ahead, I can count on her being there.
Zebra's may have stripes and in fact so does she/gray that is mixed in her regular.
Election day was one of patriotic pride when we voted as the Lord leads.
Dearly beloved, I'm sure you guessed already, my prized "possession"/friend and pal is Rhonda.
I was blessed by meeting her and to this day the blessing has only multiplied for she still loves me and I love her too.
You are beloved by your families, the WdC, and Copenator out! BA, MDiv
