Knight’s Lament

Snapdragon -
as though it weren’t enough,
the fiery breath
and armoured hide.

No, we must have bad temper too
and face angry quips
as well as flames
and cunning.

It’s a cruel world,
with insult added to injury,
and hardly worth
saving the damn damsel.
