L'aura del campo

'é a lua, é a lua, na quintana dos mortos'
♣ Federico García Lorca ♣

Higgins Street Bridge, April 25th 2009, Missoula, Montana

L'aura del campo. A breeze in the meadow. So it began the last day of Spring, 2005; on the 16th day of the month of Light of the year 162. This is a supplement to my daily journal written to a friend, my muse; notes I do not share. Here I will share what the breeze has whispered to me.

Weight of water

1942 - 1961

What was so heavy at the end of February,
that guided by the light of snow at night,
was worth the risk of life at Vemork.

Nineteen years later, our sister was due;
but, as heavy as she was in the womb,
she made us wait till after that snowy midnight.

She sabotaged our childhood travels,
me behind mom, sis behind dad, no choice
but to sit in the middle with never a view

of snow sifting over the blue Chevy.

På norsk (rough translation):

Nynorsk:

Vekt av vatn

1942 - 1961

Kva var så tungt i slutten av februar,
som vert styrt av lyset av snø om natta,
var verd risikoen for liv i Vemork.

Nitten år seinare var systera vår forfalle;

1942-1961

O que era tan pesado a finais de febreiro,
que guiada pola luz da neve pola noite,
valeu o risco de vida en Vemork.

Dezanove anos máis tarde, a nosa irmá era debido;
pero, tan pesado como estaba no útero,
Fíxonos esperar ata logo da media noite nevada.

Ela saboteou as viaxes da nosa infancia,
min detrás de mamá, irmá grande detrás do pai, non hai elección
pero sentarse no medio sen nunca ver

de neve tamizando sobre o Chevy azul.

Superbowl LII

          for Kiya

Eagles soared through overcast skies
to bring back sun. Frankly, I didn't care
who won. All was already lost and done,
a day of tossing pigskin, a pig's opinion
not-with-standing. Only patriots were allowed
to voice their thoughts—and although I had many—
I wasn't one of the anointed ones
to share for my friends demeaned, deported.
Despair hunted those who still had hearts; so,
we prayed that eagles would soar high enough
to bring back souls for patriots who'd lost them.
