Jared flopped onto Drew’s bed like a sack of potatoes, limbs sprawled in every direction. “Dude,” he groaned, “I’m gonna sleep like a baby tonight.”
Drew, sitting cross-legged on the floor and fiddling with a Rubik’s Cube he hadn’t solved since 8th grade, looked up with a mischievous glint in his eye. “You sure about that?”
Jared yawned again. “Yeah, man. I’m wiped. Like, out cold. Baby mode.”
Drew grinned. “Alright then. Baby mode it is.”
With a snap of his fingers—because of course his mysterious power came with dramatic flair—Jared shimmered like a bad Snapchat filter and *poof!* was now a chubby-cheeked, wide-eyed 1-year-old in a Batman onesie.
“Gah!” Baby Jared squealed, then giggled, then promptly crawled onto Drew’s bed like he owned the place. He curled up beside Drew, stuck his thumb in his mouth, and within seconds was snoring softly like a tiny chainsaw.
Drew stared at his best friend, now a pint-sized burrito of innocence. “Well,” he whispered, “you *did* say you wanted to sleep like a baby.”
The next morning, Drew was awakened by a soft whimper. Baby Jared sat up, rubbed his eyes, and let out a tiny cry that sounded like a sad kazoo.
“Alright, alright,” Drew said, stretching. “Time to grow up.”
Another snap. Another shimmer. And Jared was back—full-sized, bedhead in full bloom, blinking like he’d just returned from Narnia.
“Bro,” Jared said, rubbing his eyes. “I don’t know what kind of mattress you’ve got, but I slept like a rock. Best sleep I’ve ever had here.”
Drew burst out laughing. “That’s because you were literally a baby. I turned you into a toddler last night.”
Jared blinked. “Wait, *what*?”
“Yup. You said ‘sleep like a baby,’ and I delivered. You even drooled on my pillow.”
Jared looked horrified for a moment, then shrugged. “Honestly? Worth it.”
Drew grinned. “From now on, every sleepover, you’re going baby mode. It’s my new bedtime ritual.”
Jared rolled his eyes. “Just don’t make me wear a diaper.”
“No promises.” indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
