This choice: Goes to her condo, knocks and gives it her there, lets her demonstrate on him • Go Back...Chapter #5Goes to her condo, gives it to her there, shows it by: DougTF Jim drives out of town, into the suburbs, where there is a lot more space, though not the rich neighborhood his bosses live in: this community is a mix of parkland, small single family homes, and some newer but nice condo buildings. Cheryl lives in one of these, and Jim knows where it is from the wake gathering after Gina's funeral. Jim was one of only three people from work to attend, and even in her grief, she was really happy he did so, and somewhat surprised. Thinking about it, he realizes that is where their relationship became a friendship, not just a cordial coworker one. Cheryl even admitted she had thought he might have taken some of her ideas as his own, the way she was ignored so much by the higher ups. It was then that he started paying closer attention and realized how much his company denigrated the contributions of women, and how much of a mistake it was. He had written glowing letters of recommendation for Cheryl, but her lack of status in the company prevented her from getting a better position elsewhere, and he stayed on as well, for the chance to work with her and try to make some changes. He knows now it was a fools errand, and Cheryl deserves so much more. Maybe this bangle and its powers will help her.
He parks and takes the elevator up, the building fairly quiet, and gets off at her floor, knocking on the door. He had texted ahead of time, so she opens the door, dressed in casual clothes, an intrigued look on her face. "Come on in, Jim, always nice to have company, but not sure what would bring you out here this late. Everything ok?" He nods and comes in, thanking her, and handing her the gift box. She blinks, and were he a different man, she might think it inappropriate for him to come to her house, give her some gift..that he had other motives or ideas. But, she knows Jim, trusts him about as much as she trusts any man, and surely he knows a romantic gesture is a fools errand for him, since he knows how much she loved Gina.
Her expression must have given something away, likely the momentary pain that passes across her features when she thinks of her partner. "Cheryl, it's a birthday gift, and, well, I thought it better to give it you here, rather than in the office. I know you understand, but neither of us needs the inneundo our shallow coworkers would surely gossip about in the breakroom or boardroom." She laughs "You got that right...I can hear it now "Good for ole' Jimmy boy, straightened out that lez Cheryl. Now if we can get him to treat her like all the other secretaries, now that he's banging her" she laughs, but it is fairly humorless and he chuckles sadly. "I hate it that's not too much of a joke and undoubtedly what some of those guys would say. But, well, maybe..maybe this gift could change that, when all our other efforts have been unsuccessful."
That makes Cheryl raise an eyebrow and she opens the box, her expression both pleased and confused. The bangle is nice, a cute pink stone and actually fits her style decently enough, but she is perplexed how a bracelet might change those knuckle draggers attitudes. "It's lovely Jim, but I don't understand how a piece of jewelry can change the neanderthal attitudes of the management team?" Jim nods and takes a deep breath "This is going to sound like I am playing some sort of cruel joke, and I thought the same thing at the store where I bought it, but.... that bangle, it's, well, it's magic. The person wearing it can change the gender of a person, and only the person wearing it, and the person affected will realize the change." She takes on a hurt expression, thinking it is surely a joke, and a cruel one at that to come from a man she trusted, but his expression is almost pleading, and he nods "GO ahead, use it on me, worst case I was tricked at the store, but I am telling you, the guy showed me...go ahead" he closes his eyes and Cheryl considers, and thinks of Jim being a cute blonde.
Jim jumps as Cheryl screams, and he too lets out a little yelp, except he isn't he any more, but she. She looks down at herself, her body a much more stunning woman than Mr. Lee had turned him into, younger, in a form fitting dress and heels, and looks at Cheryl who is staring wide eyed "See? I didn't believe it either, but well, rather obviously this is NOT my regular self"
Cheryl comes over, somewhat unsteady, reaching out, touching Jim's new body, gasping as she feels 'her' now slender arm, and stepping to her "Oh Jim, you're beautiful... I don't understand. This bangle is real, can do this? And you gave it to me?" Jim nods, brushing her long blonde hair from her face and smiles "I figured you could use it on some of the management, let them see how it feels to be a woman in our company, to be marginalized, hell you could turn yourself into a man and give them a taste of it, get credit for ideas maybe, whatever. But, you deserve so much better than the company gives you, and to be treated so much better as a person, and sure as hell those guys in management need to realize the value of a woman is far more than her looks...oh"
Jim cuts off, because Cheryl wraps her in a hug, crying, and then even kisses her cheek, which really catches Jim off guard. Cheryl usually hates physical touch with a man, other than a hand shake, even with him, but oh.....oh!
Breaking the hug, he sees her crying, and also smiling. She wipes her eyes "Oh Jim, I.... I.... we need to talk, here, sit down" and leads her to the sofa, sitting with her. Cheryl takes a deep breath and begins "Gina and I, near the end, we talked, and well, she wanted to make sure I was gonna be ok. She knew my struggles at work, and I had told her you were the only one who ever seemed to see me for who I was, for the value in my work and ideas. We joked you were one of maybe three men we thought was ok. Gina urged me to form a friendship, to try and get over my trauma, to confide in you, and let you in a little. It... it was, like, her wish for me, after she was gone. And I did, I tried, but, but, I have issues with men, ever since, well.... I am just scared and angry around them, and I really wanted you as a friend, its just" she trails off, crying and Jim pats her shoulder, never having really figured it out.
Jim, in her now feminine voice "I am so sorry a man hurt you, damaged your trust in men, and even worse, that so many men in this world act in a way to reinforce that lack of trust, that hurt. I would never do that to you, to any woman, but I also understand that I don't get it, can never get it, really, not even being in this new body you made for me. But, if this helps you open up and be able to treat me as a friend, well, I mean, I suppose I look good in heels" laughing a bit at the joke, but Cheryl's head comes up, wipes away some tears.
"Yeah, about that....I'm sorry Jim, I just um, well" Jim nods "You made me a woman to test the bangle, and that let you open up to me, I get it" but she stops him "Oh, no, you most certainly do NOT get it, I um, well, I didn't make you just any woman" biting her lip. Jim blinks and looks down at herself, at her new body. Younger, curvy, lithe limbs, flawless complexion... her blue eyes widen "Cheryl, erm, am I... am I your dream woman?" She nods and starts crying, and Jim doesn't know what to say. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
