Chapter #5

Almost there...!

by: evil dude Author IconMail Icon
Betty checked one final time to make sure that they were all still facing the car and once she had confirmed that every last zombie was distracted she began running as quickly and silently as possible. Fortunately, whatever held the mob of undead's attention kept it long after Betty had disappeared onto the house that had been across the street... she didn't even have to open the broken off door. As soon as she stepped inside Betty pressed her back up against the wall and kept her eyes peeled for signs of movement. Silence. Betty walked past the stairs and into the living room where she found a Spongebob backpack laying on the floor. It was a little small and not really her style, but she was glad to have something to put her first aid kit in. Betty gave the room a quick look around and when she didn't see anything useful, moved into the kitchen.

There was a days old corpse of a middle aged woman laying under the table with a towel over her face and flies buzzing over her body. Betty covered her mouth and nose in an attempt to cut off the smell and moved over to the refrigerator. She was hungry and it would be good to get some supplies to take with her. The warm glow of the tiny light bulb and fresh looking produce told Betty that this house still had power. "Thank goodness." She said as she reached inside and pulled out a crisp orange carrot and took a bite. Unlike most teenagers, Betty had a certain fondness for vegetables, of course she also had quite the soft spot for sweets. After finishing the carrot Betty closed the door and checked the cabinets for food that wouldn't go bad if the church didn't have a working fridge. The shelves inside were lined with everything from captain crunch to ketchup. It took a few minutes for her to decide what to take and what to leave, yet once her backpack was full she had a little bit of everything and was quite satisfied with the variety. She may have packed more snack cakes then necessary, but also included plenty of heathy foods.

After she had checked the window to make sure the outside was clear, Betty open the kitchens still intact door and walked out into the houses back yard. In a few minutes of careful navigating she was back on the street heading for the church, which she could now see up ahead. The tall tree that was growing in its front yard was unmistakable. Betty took momentary cover behind a car as a level 2 zombie seemed to sniff at the air around it as it passed by. Once it was out of sight Betty made a run for the church and was just about to the front steps when that same zombie appeared from behind a nearby car and began running towards her at a frightening speed! Betty hadn't seen any zombies like this one and in a panic...
