The man doesn’t sense anything is wrong, and you’re too embarrassed to tell him the truth. So, you do the only thing you can do and play along. You soon learn his name is Adam and that he is currently jobless.

That should have been your first warning sign.

When he asks what your job is, something compels you to say that you hope to be a maid, and his eyes light up.
