"Kim told me to meet with her in about half an hour so.. any good advice?" You told your friend now that she spilled the beans about having so much information on everyone.
"Is that so? Let's go for a coffee then" Jenny grinned "and I can tell you all you need to know"
"Wouldn't that get you in trouble?"
"What, welcoming the new guy to the office? Not really, I don't think so" Jenny smiled and after talking a bit with another receptionist she told you to get going. The other receptionist didn't seem to enjoy the idea from what you saw, but Jenny still managed to quickly convince her, so maybe it was true she had more influence in the office than being a mere receptionist.
On the coffee shop Jenny and you took a table in one of the corners, and when you heard a familiar sound of high heels being taken off and falling to the floor you just rolled your eyes at her
"What? You need to earn this stuff, foot boy" Jenny teased and of course you complied. You both knew you would have eagerly rubbed her feet anyway, and it still comforted you in a way that Jenny was both allowing you to get access to her feet while at work and doing so in a relatively private way.
"Alright, I'm all ears" you told her after getting her to make a satisfied sigh with your ministrations.
"The first thing to know is that Kim is a fair boss, but can be very stern and doesn't appreciate if you aren't able to pull your own weight, so it's important that you make a good start and that you wait a bit before trying to be cute and ask for permissions or other stuff you haven't earned yet.. Come on, focus more on the toes" You nodded while Jenny talked and sighed here and there, agreeing with what she said. It aligned with the impression you got from the beautiful and classy red head, nice but intimidating, someone that as her position required easily commanded respect.
"And about the supervisors?"
"If I were you I would go with Jacinta, she is nice and has been here for 4 years already, your other option is Denise who might deliver better results but she is kind of a bitch.. Ohh keep doing that.. James, I know you're ambitious and all but believe me, it's better in the long run to not make your daily office experience a miserable one so stay away from Denise if you can" Jenny warned, and here you disagreed. If you wanted to be on the top, you needed to work with the best right? Maybe Jenny and Denise had some personal conflicts between them but that didn't mean she couldn't be your friend too.
"I see, anything else?"
"Well, not much. There's the other receptionist that you saw who is Denise's bestie and unlike me she will not hesitate to leak any juicy gossip so don't let her know you're a foot boy, and there's the janitor Helena but you shouldn't see much of her anyway... Oh right, you know you have competition right? Hey don't stop!" You looked up at her after hearing it and Jenny just casually moved the foot you had in your hands to let you know you weren't done.
"Kim told me there was only one spot.."
"Her name is Michelle, recent graduate like you. Got here as an intern but still, if she ends up outperforming you then you are in trouble" Jenny shrugged. The way she said it meant she didn't know much more about this new intern, just a friendly warning to do your best.
"Well, we should go back to work now and you can go to Kim, want to put my shoes on?" Jenny teased and rolling your eyes again you complied. Just as you suspected, Jenny shared valuable info but it wasn't like she had dirt on everyone like she suggested earlier, or that she was willing to share it with you anyway. Regardless, it was nice to have an ally in the office already.
