Richard's class was visiting a museum with a focus on culture.
They had gone through loads of replicas of roman swords, spears, shields and other stuff as well as through the section about the cave men and the old Persians.
Unlike most of his classmates Richard liked museums. There had been some impressively manufactured coins from the Persians which weren't leaving his mind till they entered the next district.
Even though Richard liked museums he didn't listen to the guide. Everything they said could usually be read on the signs infront of the things.
After stumbling around without a goal Richard came to stop infront of a little replica of a Maya temple. On the sign he reads that the thing actually isn't a replica of something, but an artifact from some native south American tribe. "They used to sacrifice things to 'the gods' "
He read. "The legend says that there was only one correct sacrifice,
the most valuable to every man, and that the one who solved
this 'riddle' would receive a gift from the gods"
Richard loved legends and myths. He thought for a quick moment and then glanced left and right.
There were only a few guest in this room other than his class, and they were all distracted by bigger things while his class was listening to the guide. Most of them bored.
After he had confirmed that no one was watching he pulled on a "string" of flesh on his finger and immediately started to bleed. He let a drop of blood drip on the artefact and quickly went to where his class was to not stick out.
While walking away he thought that he heared a hiss from the direction of the artifact but since he was always sure to keep fantasy and reality strictly separated he didn't turn around and convinced himself that he didn't hear anything real.
Richard didn't knew but he had solved the riddle. (the 'gods' intention was to show the humans how pitiful they are, as the thing any human values most highly is his himself.)
Long story short, this was the beginning of the story of Richard, the guy with the power to...
