As he stepped outside, Tom felt a powerful gust of wind blow as at him, nearly making him lose his balance. “Holy shit dude, this is an actual ordeal” he said to himself as he set pace toward his apartment complex. As he walked home at a brisk pace, he could see people frantically hurry home in their cars, as cars were honking and maneuvering around each other to get off the road.

The rain was the worst part of it, it seemed to grow louder the closer he got to his place, and come down just as heavy. Lucky, he’d been wearing a weatherproof jacket that had kept him dry for the most part.

He opened the front gate to his complex, and made haste to towards the elevator. As he made his way there, however, he heard a loud series of knocks. He paused to listen in, but attributed it to the wind beating against something. His time in the elevator was nice, as it seemed to be the driest place for the time being. The red emergency sign caught his eye, as it read:

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, DO NOT OCCUPY THIS ELEVATOR. PLEASE USE THE OUTDOOR STAIRCASE TO THE NORTH OF THIS BUILDING.

“Well that’s great” Tom thought to himself, “I hope this thing doesn’t cut out before I made it to my floor”.

Luckily, the elevator cart managed to pull Tom up to his floor without any problems whatsoever. He focused his attention to his pockets when he exited, to search for his keys. The knocking sound from before grew louder as he walked forward, and when he looked up, he finally seen the source of it:

Jojo

She was soaking wet, in a matching set of a dark gray sports bra and leggings. It seemed that she also intended on working out that morning, but Mother Nature had a different idea. As Tom drew closer, it seemed that she was a bit emotional, but when she noticed Tom, a look of joy spread across her face.

“Oh my gosh! Tom right?” Jojo said happily.

“Uh yeah, Jojo right? What’s up, is everything okay?”

She sniffled and wiped old tears from her face, “Yeah, it’s just that I was trying to do my morning run, but then the weather got all crazy out of nowhere. It blew away my house keys, and now my phone is dead so i have no way of getting into my apartment. I was trying to see if you were home so I could at least wait things out indoors”

“Damn I’m sorry to hear that! But of course you can wait for me! I’m glad I decided not to stay at that smoothie shop!” Tom said reassuringly, as he begun to unlock his front door.

“Thank you, thank you Tom! You’re my hero!” Jojo said, hugging onto Tom tightly.

Tom opened the door and let Jojo into the house first. He could hear each of her steps slush as she was entirely soaked in rain. Her yoga pants had completely stuck to her large rear, and almost glistened due to the hydrated fabric. She took off her shoes and socks, and left them by the front door to dry somewhat.

“I wish our units had washer and dryers in them, or I’d try to clean your clothes for you and I’d give you a fresher pair” Tom said, as he turned the heater on in.

“But Tom, our entire floor all have our own washer and dryer hookup? They’re in the kitchen I thought” Jojo said, wringing her hair out.

Tom then looked over at his kitchen and seen a brand new washer and dryer unit, one that couldn’t have been there that morning.

“What the hell? Where did that come from?” He thought to himself, walking over to inspect it. What was even weirder, was that something was already drying inside. He opened it up, and pulled out a large warm towel.

“Oh, is that for me? Thank you Tom” Jojo said.

“I, er, yeah! This is for you to stay warm and dry off for now” Tom smiled.

He tossed her the towel and she proceeded to dry off what she could.

“On second thought, can I grab you a dry pair of clothes? They won’t be your size, but it’ll beat sitting in wet clothes” he asked her.

She pondered on it for a few seconds, “Uhhh, yeah, sure Tom. That would be nice”.

“Excellent, I’ll grab you some sweats and a hoodie” Tom said as he got up and headed off into his room. He rummaged through his drawers to find an old pair of gray sweats that he hadn’t worn in a while. They fit him kind of small, so he wasn’t too sure why Des had packed them in the first place. “Des never knows what fits me anymore” Tom said, shaking his head. He then walked over to his closet and pulled out a black hoodie that was fairly warm to wear in his opinion.

He came back out into the living room to see Jojo plugging her phone in with Tom’s charger, while wrapped in the warm towel that he’d supplied her.

She looked over and smiled, “I hope it’s okay that I use your charger”, to which Tom waved off, “It’s no big deal, use it as much as you’d like. Here’s some warmer clothes!”

“Thank you Tom, you’re a lifesaver!” she said as he handed them to her, “Where should I change?”
