Vermont was far behind her now, much to the surprising disappointment of Wednesday Addams. The inane chattering of students was more bothersome than usual as they gawked out the windows at the shining towers of New York City. Oh, how Wednesday loathed those towers. She loathed the towers, she loathed the neon and LED signs, she loathed the throngs of people, she loathed the mouth-breathing tourists in their tacky merchandise. She loathed all the glitz, glamour, and gilded gaudy garishness of the place. Too many smiles. Not enough screaming. Looking over at Enid and saw she was just as obsessed with everything outside these windows as everyone else. Today was going to be insufferable.
Leaning against the cool window, she closed one eye and pinched her fingers before the other, pretending that pedestrians were popping between her fingertips. “If only,” she whispered wistfully as she rested her head and closed her eyes. “Wake me when we get to the hotel,” she murmured to Enid as a wave of drowsiness overtook her.
