Prom Night Game - They'll play

"I don't know." Josh replied apprehensively thinking back how holding the game made both Jenn and her Mom feel an odd compulsion that was very unlike their normal selves.

"Don't be such a stick in the mud." Jenn told him grabbing his arm and dragged him over to the table where Lynn had already set up the game. Being the pushover that he was when around Jenn, Josh followed her over to the table.

'How did she get the game set up so fast? Didn't she just sit down?' Josh thought to himself as he watched Lynn starting to look at the rules of the game. The board was all set up with several different colored cards. Light Blue, Pink, and Orange stacks of cards were carefully set up on table with the board game in between them. The game itself looked to look a lot like a chutes and ladders game. The player had to wind their way up the board to reach the top. Along the way, there were different colored squares that matched the stacks of cards that were stacked up on the outside of the table.

"Lets see here." Lynn replied as she pulled out a slip of paper from the box. "Now that everyone is here, lets go over the rules. It's time for prom and we need to get you ready. Luckily, to help you get ready, there are several squares that can either help or hinder your chances. Be the first to reach the top to win the Crown of Prom Queen. Now pick your game pieces, but beware your choice will influence the outcome of the cards." Lynn looked down at the game pieces in a small card board box. "I choose... umm... black." She announced as she pulled out a black game piece that looked to be a miniature mannequin. Passing the box to Josh, he chose the light blue game piece. Jenn chose the purple and Kira gets the pink one.

"Awe..." Kira whined as she took a better look at her game piece. "I wanted the light blue one. Will you trade with me Joshie?"

Looking at her like she'd just grew another head, Josh shook his head. "Uhh... no." He told her. "I'm stuck playing this game with you ladies and I don't want to be stuck with pink piece."

Kira seemed to be hurt by the statement and looked over at her sister. "Jenn, will you trade with me, your boyfriend is being a jerk." She asked holding out her piece hoping to trade. Shaking her head, Jenn held her piece closer to her body. "Fine, I will keep it then." As she was about to place it at the start position, all the game pieces being held seemed to jump out of their hands and join Kira's game piece on the start square.

"What in the hell?" Josh exclaimed looking at his own hand that held his game piece just moments before. "That must be some powerful magnets for it to jump that far." He justified since it made the most sense at the moment.

"Ahem." Lynn cleared her throat and looked at the others sitting around the table. Holding up a pair of dice in her manicured hand. "I will go first, then Jenn, Josh, and lastly Kira." She stated as she followed around the table going clockwise. "Does that sound alright?" She asked the assembled group, who all nodded since it made sense. "Great. Here I go." She rolled the dice onto the table and watched it nearly slide off of the table and onto the floor. "I got a 2 and a 3." She declared as she went to grab her game piece, only to find it moving across the board until it rested 5 spaces away from the start. The square had a pink hue to it and when the piece finally rested, the top card of the pink deck flew off and rested itself into Lynn's hand.

Shocked at what had just happened, Jenn looked at her Mom, who was looking at the card. "What does it say?" She asked wondering how the game that she picked up was doing all of this.

Looking up from the card, Lynn had the odd urge to read it aloud.

They say blondes have more fun
even more when their hair is up a bun

They all watched with disbelief as Lynn's normally short, black hair started to flow out much like dough coming out of an extruder. It flowed down to her mid back and just as fast as it had came down, the color changed from her normal black to a blonde color that looked almost as pale as moonlight. Feeling her hair, Lynn looked at the others, who looked as if they were about to run out of the room. A tugging sensation could be felt as she felt her hair being moved around and tickling around her ears. Soon, the tugged situated at the top of her head and the tickling sensation stopped. Getting up, she made her way over to the mirror that she'd gotten from her Grandmother. As she saw her reflection, she gasped. "How? What?" She started asking out loud, not having the right frame of mind to ask coherent questions.

"It looked like a ghost was playing with your hair." Kira pointed out gesturing towards her hair.

Lynn looked back at the others, while trying to let her hair down from the bun. As she tried to let her hair down, she found that it wouldn't budge. The band holding her hair in place didn't seem to want to budge. "Its stuck." She exclaimed as she turned and looked back at the others with a scared look on her face. "What have I done?" She lamented as she tried to leave the room, only to find a semi translucent barrier keeping her from leaving the room. Putting her hand on the barrier, she felt it give slightly, but still held her hand in place. It was warm and comforting, but unyielding at the same time.

As the others watched her, they heard the voice of a teenage girl coming from the game itself. "Silly Goose." It replied with a giggle. "Nobody is allowed to leave before the game is complete. Come back and earn your chance at becoming the prom queen."

Josh, Kira, and Jenn looked back at the game and they towards Lynn. "We can't leave until the game is finished." Lynn announced as she gestured the others to gather around the table.

Feeling their hearts beating faster with what had just happened, the others followed Lynn's example and sat back down around the table. Jenn, who was looking at the cards, turned to her Mom. "What do the colors do?" She asked gesturing towards the other cards.

Quickly looking for the instruction, she didn't seem to find what the colors do. "I don't know, there's not anything written here to tell me what they do."

Almost as if on queue, the voice in the game spoke up again. "Look at me having a ball and forgetting that you're new." It replied with the same chipper voice as before. "I didn't mean to make you flip your lid over everything. Let me shine some light on the rules. The pink is a physical change to help make you look more appealing. The light blue will allow a change to your clothing. The Orange is the niftiest since it will help change your mind to allow you to fit in better. We can't have the prom queen being a such a square, right." She ended with a giggle.

"I think we need to finish before we can leave." Josh pointed out as he picked up the dice to give to Jenn. Taking the dice in her hands, she tossed them on the table. Everyone looked at the dice and found that she rolled _____ and would land in a ______ square
