Your family has lived in the city of Callerynta (located in the geographical center of the Kingdom) for generations. During that time, some of your ancestors had a profitable career in adventuring. They garneredy enough gold to set up family members who wanted to be merchants and artisans, as well as buy profitable ventures, such as The Crossroads Inn. Not far from that inn is a large compound of apartments centered around a courtyard with a large fountain in it. That compound is where many of the extended family lives when they’re not on the road, including you.
You’re in your apartment, trying to compose a comedic song that you’ve tentatively entitled Owen the Ortas.
The Ortas are a race of anthropomorphic turtles with the average male standing five foot six. They’re not one of the races with a significant population inside the Kingdom.
Yes, half the comedic songs in existence are about the Ortas, but you’re not trying to write something deep and meaningful. You’re just trying to expand your repertoire of humorous songs.
You pluck a minor chord on your mandolin when the amulet on your necklace starts glowing.
A few weeks ago, when your maternal grandmother died, she left you a silver necklace with a strange amulet on it. The amulet is cross shaped, with a loop at the top, and supposedly predates the family moving to the Kingdom hundreds of years ago.
Today is the first day you’ve ever worn it.
You quickly take the necklace off.
The glow around the amulet quickly disappears.
After a little experimentation, you discover the glow around the necklace only appears when you play a specific minor chord, and only when you are wearing it. The glow disappears as soon as you remove the necklace.
As intrigued as you are about your discovery, you decide to table any investigation on it. You need to get ready for a performance.
As said earlier, Callerynta is in the geographical center of the Kingdom. It also lies on the intersection of two Royal Highways. One of the highways runs north-south, between the capital city of Kara and the main pass in the Kingdom’s Southern mountain range. The other runs west-east, between Phesia (a port city on the Great Sea) and the main pass in the Kingdom’s Eastern mountain range.
To get to where you will be performing, you will need to travel
