Holmes sat up with keen interest. As his social circle hardly extended beyond myself, whoever had knocked on his door was likely to be presenting him with a new case.
"Do come in," beckoned he.
The door opened and a tall, slim figure in blue and green overalls entered. His hair and his thick mustache with its curled ends were black and shiny. Atop his head was a green cap with the a white circle in the center and the letter "L" within that.
"Come," said Holmes. "Take a seat. You are a plumber by trade. You come from New York and your parents came from Italy. You are the younger, though slightly taller, of two brothers. But beyond that, I must confess that I know nothing of who you are or why you are here."
Our visitor's jaw dropped in astonishment.
"I do not know how you even knew that much."
"It is quite apparent to anyone with eyes and a brain and the willingness to use them," insisted Holmes. "I pray that the problem with which you wish to consult me is far murkier."
