A Promise Never Made

Few things can happen in one night. Change is a thing that can happen in just a snap.

         My eyes widened as her voice echoed in my head.

         "We're done"

         The words that caused my tongue to twist, blocking the words I practiced for hours upon hours. My world seemed to stop when I heard her own footsteps walking away from me. Tears welded in my eyes as I picture the face of the woman I would never be able to hold again. As tears dripple down my face, the small box slipped out of my now numb hands, crashing to the floor, opening the box, hearing the tingling of the ring like promises slipping away alongside, resting next to the first of the tears to come.
