The word Dreamland takes me to Dreamland!! As a child on holiday at a hill station, have had a LOT of meals over the years at HOTEL DREAMLAND! |
It's like glass half empty or half full. Or full - half of water, half of air. So - is it 'there are roses, nonetheless there are thorns' OR 'There are thorns - nonetheless, there are roses' ... ? It all depends on your perspective! Words: 40 |
Yesterday there was a Diwali Puja (prayer) at Lahe Lahe (where I do my Harry Potter events). Only the Lahe Lahe team, was present, aside from one of their mothers and me. I felt honoured to be included. We had lunch then did the prayer, which was with a sacred fire and lasted about 45 minutes. All of us took it in turns to do the 'Aarti" at the end. We had lunch and a snack. I LOVED IT. It felt warm and family-like. I was surrounded by love, comfort and support. |
In 1993, a TV commercial Dad acted in was aired between overs during the Cricket World Cup. He started being recognised in the street. Strangers held their umbrella over him when it rained. He's had his share of fame! ![]() Words: 39 |
It's incredible the difference attitude can make. When I ask myself 'what is there to be grateful about in this situation', my attitude changes and I see the blessing instead of the annoyance! ![]() Words: 33 |
Unmarried and without kids of my own - what will my legacy be? The joy of reading, for a student? The hobby of collecting post marks? The meticulousness of preparing for a workshop? Intangible legacies, all, but important I hope. Words: 39 |
I'm looking forward to meeting my counsellor again, after a gap of 5 years. She had helped me cope with the PTSD after multiple eye surgeries. Now I need to speak to her about the overwhelmed feeling of being solely responsible for an 88 year old Dad, and of the fear of being alone once Dad dies. Oh, there's nothing 'terribly' wrong. Dad is fine, except for his mobility. He watches movies on Netflix and emails people and attends online classes and stuff. But he's eighty-eight and aging, and it's an effort for him to keep going. I'm single and I have no siblings. We lost Mom in Dec 2006, so it's just Dad and me. We have good paid help, but it's not the same. We have very supportive extended family, but they're not in the same city. So I feel overwhelmed and need to talk to someone. Thus I decided to reconnect with my counsellor. Meeting her this afternoon. Hope it goes well. |
![]() Today is National Legal Services Day. I know this because I collect Post Marks! This hobby of collecting post marks has taught me a lot and helped me to meet many like-minded people. Today, I'll tell you of my post office visit, leaving out no detail, however slight. 1. I was aware that the new rule, implemented for the first time today, required a payment of Rs. 2 per cancelation over and above the postage already paid. I wasn't sure if that meant cash on the spot or an additional stamp to be stuck. If it meant the latter, it would lead to a lot of work at the P.O. I wondered whether to do it at home. Then I decided not to risk it. Turns out I was right! ![]() 2. I obtained the token and went for the cancelation. There was a lady already there, getting hers done. she was getting the 'free' one, not today's special one. I wonder how they're going to cope with people who have paid and people who haven't in the same queue, in future. 3. I got my cancelations done. These included two to folks in "The Snail Mail Group" ![]() One of my friends in Bangalore hasn't been receiving his snail mail so I took a photo of the one to him and sent it, so that he could what-heck the post ofice at his end. I put 55 mail-able items in the box and 20 extras in my bag. 4. I went to buy philatelic stamps. ![]() There, I bought some Rs. 20 sheets and one Rs. 25 stamp - but mostly Rs. 5 stamps. There were two 'legal' themed philatelic stamps so I affixed those on yellow postcards and, having duly paid Rs. 2 each, got them stamped, too. I got the free one on each as well! Got a good haul of Rs. 5 stamps. 5. Messaged my friend about how the new rule is being implemented, to prevent him from sticking extra stamps. 6. Passed the Dairy on the way home, bought milk, curd and cheese. |
Interesting prompt today! While collecting post marks, I used to pay ordinary postage and get the special cancelation. Now, there is a fee of Rs. 2. For the first time, I counted the number of letters at the post office! All Words: 40 |
I splurged today on a set of 48 colour pencils. I've been doing a lot of 'circle' drawings lately, The ones I've done already in crayon ![]() I've already gifted Mansee, my friend who runs the Lahe Lahe cafe, a set of six place-mats (laminated pencil circles). I was thrilled when I went to present them to her, because she appreciated them and then her son (age 8) came in. He didn't know I had anything to do with the place-mats, but saw them there and said, "Wow how nice!" Spontaneous praise from a child is so wonderful to hear. So I splurged on 48 shades. That's the brand I like and the 24 shade box wasn't available. I hope the 48 shades will give me more scope for colour combinations! It will, I know!! I need to stop feeling guilty about buying stuff for myself. It's something I'm going to use, enjoy using, and enjoy gifting - so why the guilt?
