My parents had a religious wedding ceremony and a 'registered' marriage as well.

My Dad loves imitating the registrar, conducting the 'ceremony':
"Sign this. Read this aloud. Witnesses please. Congratulations, you are now married. NEXT."

"Note: 48-HOUR CHALLENGE : Media Prompt Deadl..."

Marriage is dancing in step
with someone else
to a tune.

If different tunes play
in each head
then

it's about synch.
It's all about synch.

You dance to your tune
I dance to mine
But we're in synch
so we dance in time.

Marriage is closeness
in a vast space
holding each other tight
while cutting loose, letting fly.

Marriage is knowing
your partner's every nuance
and yet
waking up to a new discovery each dawn.

Marriage is a mix
of diverseness
a diversity of similarities

A comfort-zone
an adventure
a home where you stay
a trip far away

It is everything
don't make it nothing

At fifty-five, I must admit to
Letting go of people who
Rant and create unnecessary Drama.
Enough is enough, after all
Anyway, these lyrics are addressed to those
Dramatic people, who don't exist for me now.
Yes, I'm already calm,

Crazy outings with like minded pals
Accepted, cared for ...
Loved. I'm happy, and what's more, I am
Mjyself.

Chapter 1: Mona Enters WDC-land

Mona was getting very tired of sitting gazing at her computer screen, with no ideas about what to write. In desperation, she keyed in 'writing inspiration'. Suddenly, Mona found herself flying, flying, flying ... soaring high above the clouds. "I must be higher than the highest bird ever flew," Mona thought. At first, the great flight was exciting, but then she found herself growing bored. "If only I'd get there."

Get there, she did. It was on Cloud #9 that she finally landed, and all around her were pieces of cake and bottles of juice. Upon drinking the juice, she grew taller and taller. Upon eating the cake, she grew smaller and smaller. Finally, in exasperation, she grabbed the only piece of pizza in sight, chewed and swallowed it - and became just the right size to enter a door marked WDC-land.

Chapter 2: The Mad Power Tea

As soon as she stepped through the door, Mona heard a voice saying 'Eyestar! Eyestar!'

"What a lovely voice," Mona whispered to herself (indeed there was no one else to whisper to), heading toward the voice. "And what a lovely name it calls. If only it were calling me!"

She was walking through a forest, and chanced upon a clearing. There was a HUGE table laid out, and various people sitting around. "Welcome to the Power Tea, Eyestar," someone called, and she found herself sitting at the table.

On the table were items and items - items to read, items to review, items to participate in ... items needing co-ordinators and items needing prizes. Unable to choose, Mona pulled all of them to her. Soon, she was reading, reviewing, co-ordinating and handing out prizes. She became the maddest, most celebrated member of the Power Tea.

Chapter 3: The Queen

Now, the only thing left was for Mona to meet the Queen of WDC-land. The Queen of WDC-land owned many, many cats, so Mona had to walk through many smiling felines as she entered the Queen's boudoir. Some of the cats climbed trees and smiled at Mona. Some smiled so hard that only their smiles were visible after a while - all smile and no cat to be seen.

When she reached the Queen, the Queen was designing MBs. "What lovely pictures she makes!" Mona thought. Only, she didn't just think. She said it aloud. The Queen, not realising that someone was behind her, was startled. She turned and saw Mona. "Eyestar!" she said, joyfully. "You're here at last. Let's have a game of ... of ...."

"... Of Cramping," Mona suggested. "Or maybe Madlibbing, or In-and-Outing, or ..."

"Let's start with Cramping," the Queen ordered.

So they Cramped and Cramped till they were tired. Then, the Queen went to Court and turned some black cases to yellow. "We'll do the yellow to blue tomorrow, I'm tired now," she yawned, and fell asleep right there in court. Mona, who was tired too, found her eyes closing. Tomorrow, she would Madlib, In-and-Out, Interact, C-Note and have a whole lot more adventures in WDC-land!

For "Note: 48-HOUR CHALLENGE : Media Prompt Deadl..."

You can't compare the challenges faced
from one generation to another.
I went to school, and then college
But, you know, my mother
Had to fight to study on
After she married Dad
Dad's Mom wanted a stay-at-home-girl
To study more was bad.

Mom had to fight battles I never had to
She had paved the way
But then, I had stresses she never thought of
With competitive work and play.

So yeah, grandpa fought an actual war
We salute him as a hero
And Dad had his own ups and downs
But that doesn't mean the son is zero.

The son has the stresses of today
And they're just as real as theirs
Some are physical, some emotional
But each has his own cares.

The wars might be different now
They might not look as sinister
They might not need cavalries
And troops to administer

But they're battles all the same
And tough ones to fight
So don't downplay what young ones do
'cause that just isn't right.

Give every generation its due
In its own context, please
Let's not compare and contrast
Let's just live in peace.

For "Note: 48-HOUR CHALLENGE : Media Prompt Deadl..."

You know it's so obvious they're stock backdrops and footage.
But somehow it works.
Take a stock backdrop and make a new song work.

Take a stock backdrop and make a new song work.

Isn't that like a lot of things in life?

A new teacher joining a well-established school.

A young bride, in an arranged marriage to an ancient family.

A young priest entering a religious order.

The backdrop is set. Now, you have to edit your song and juxtapose the backdrop to make it work.

And it can work quite harmoniously. Be quite soothing, quite pleasing.

The challenge is to stand out while fitting in. Be the individual in the community.

Isn't that the challenge everywhere?

Take a stock backdrop and make your lyrics fit.
Put the pieces together to your tune.

Stock + New = Harmony.

But then nothing stays the same as it was, and if you expected it to, you were unrealistic. Things change, people change, the seasons change. The earth rotates every day and revolves every year and with it, babies grow up, adults grow old and the carpet fades.

We are in this moment now.

I'm watching these dancers, she's wearing blue (even her nail polish) and he's wearing red and has tattoos. They're dancing in a circle and she falls out of the circle and the scene shifts.

Why am I watching this?

To write an entry in my blog to get a merit badge.

The merit badge will come to me in the future. I know, because in the past, when I have written for the WDC Newsfeed activities, I've gotten MBs after that.

So at this present moment, I'm watching something with the knowledge of the past and the anticipation of the future. When that MB comes, my community recognitiion will change and I'll be happy.

So is the present moment, this girl's blue nail polish, for example - always connected with the past and the future? Why can't she just have blue nail polish and never mind anything else? Why did I notice her blue nail polish paritulalrly when there were hundreds of other things to notice in the picture?

Every moment stands alone
and yet
is connected with the past
the future
it is as it was
it will be as it was
which it can never be
because everything changes
so it's never
as it was

Chewing gum - Good or bad considering where used gum often ends up? WHat's the starngest flaver you've chewed? What flavor and how spicy would you prefer?

Just a quick response to this prompt. (I didn't answer it before because I imagined 'where it goes' and got sort of peculiar and hastily read the next prompt!)

Random chewings.

Here in India, we know the correct pronunciation is 'chewing gum', but somehow everyone says 'ching gum' when talking about it. Twenty years ago, my friend and I had collaborated on writing a play. It was a comedy-mystery and the main clue was the scent of mint ching gum, which the detective smelled through his magnifying glass to Pink Panther music. (The mystery wasn't technically solved because the victim was only pretending to be dead.)

The spiciest flavour? Onion garlic.
It was a trick gum, disguised to look like the Wriggley's mint that was popular in the day (when I was about eight years old) (I'm 55 now).
My Dad read about it in a comic book and ordered it for me.
My Dad was too kind to trick me with it, he warned me in advance.
However, I did trick my uncle.
(Yes, my uncle and I are still on speaking terms. He's a sporting guy and was actually proud to be the one I'd picked to trick.)

Worst memory of chewing gum?
Getting it stuck in my hair while watching a concert in school. Bleh.

Benefits of chewing gum?
My friend has an odd gap in her back tooth and food bits get stuck in and can't be flossed or brushed out. She uses chewing gum. She chews hard and the gum sticks to the stuck food and gets it out. This was recommended to her by a dentist.

Similarly, when I had a jaw-ache once, the doctor recommended chewing hard on gum for an hour or so, to get my jaws moving properly again.

Previous Generation
My Dad was 12 when India gained independence from the British.
Chewing gum wasn't really known in India when he was a kid.
Sometimes, British soldiers on the street gave my Dad and his brother bubble-gum, and this was a treat for them.
They tried to ask for it in shops and couldn't get it.

Are the Olympics still a worthwhile event since they are very expensive, have become political, and just benefit a few, if any?

I didn't attempt this prompt when it first appeared because it broke my heart.

I remember when Nadia Comăneci scored that perfect 10, and what it meant to the whole world. Humankind rejoiced at the glory of it. Over the years, we've cheered them on - those brave-hearts who toil to push the limits, to prove that 'excellence' can be re-defined to higher and higher levels.

Once upon a time, the Olympic Games were the peak of our achievement. They were the potential, they were the striving, they were the victory, and the triumph.

And now, this prompt.

The purity has been sullied. The heroes are looked upon askance. The very existence of the Games is being questioned.

What shall I respond?

Hold on, hold on, let's revive the former glory?

Let go, dump it, it'll never be what it once was ... ?

In all this anguish, my mind is thinking up silly puns, one of which is the title - instead of the real athletes, corruption has led to Limp Picks. (Ha ha pun.) Also, do you meddle with the medals? (ha ha ha haaa, pun.)

Yes, I didn't attempt to answer this prompt when it first appeared, and I am not going to now, either. My heart bleeds for humankind.

The prompt asks:
Do you think teachers, police, and fire department personnel are adequately compensated for their jobs and why?

The answer is NO.

It's like asking if a Mom is adequately compensated for the nine months she spends carrying the child, the nine years she spends helping the child with homework, the nineteen years she spends getting the child on her / his own feet - and the lifetime she spends worrying about the piece of heart she has voluntarily placed outside her body.

A good teacher is like a Mom. She / he worries about the students, even agonises. Not just academically, but every which way. There is no adequate compensation for that.

As for the police and fire personnel - they are on call and putting their lives at risk for the rest of us to stay safe. Again, nothing can compensate for that.

Do they get enough salary? No, they don't.

The prompt goes on:
If not, how would you suggest increasing their compensation?

In terms of money, pay back time.
Do what it takes. Donations, taxes. Even privatisation ... give them their due.

In terms of emotional and moral gratitude -
PRAY BACK time.
Yep. They pray for you or your kids all the time. Pray for them.
Let them know you appreciate them. Say thank you. Send them messages on Christmas. Where you can, find out their birthdays and greet them. They're people. They appreciate appreciation.
