A collection of thoughts and comments on various topics. |
This is a place for me to capture thoughts, ideas, snippets of this and bits of that, that don't seem to lend themselves to one of the more traditional item types. |
I drink in the opulent landscape, green with life. Perfection that naught this side of Heaven can match A fibonacci for the 4 Sep 18 24 Syllables contest. |
You've seen them. People come into a convenience store or coffee shop and get something to eat and/or drink. They then wander to the end of the serving area and--sometimes surreptitiously, sometimes not--grab a wad of napkins or a handful of those little dairy creamer cups and shove them into their purse or pocket. They then go their merry way. Now, if you tried to leave a store with a 10-pack of even the cheapest napkins--to say nothing of a small box of creamers--without paying for them, you'd be in hot water pretty quick. Why does no one raise the alarm? Why doesn't one of the servers at least call out, "Excuse me! Two creamer limit, please!" or a somewhat snarky, "Hey! You gonna drink that, or wear it?" And then there's the added cost. All those stores are trying to make a buck, and they're trying to make it off of us. Letting folks walk off with fistfuls of supplies means they have to order in larger quantities, and more often. The costs associated with that get passed right along to the coffee-chuggin', latte-lovin' public. That's right: us. So, at what point is it theft? I just wonder, sometimes. |
[For the 48-HOUR CHALLENGE: Media Prompt (Music Video: "Carry On" by Fun)] The lyrics to this song remind me of my mother-in-law. She wasn't lost, but she was alone, her husband having died in 2008. She dealt with medical issues of her own--two hip replacements, back surgery, shoulder surgery, as well as the cancer that eventually beat her in 2014--but she never gave up. She carried on. Truly, her past was the sound of her feet upon the ground, as she left a trail of loving relationships from coast to coast: siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a shining star in the lives of those who loved her, and her invincible spirit lives on in their hearts. |
Wow! What an explosion of colors--literally. It's like a domino effect, Rube Goldberg contraption, and music-synchronized action, all rolled into one! It puts me in mind of those really cool Christmas light displays (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GKZypDX9rgo). |

Entered onto Active Duty with the U.S. Army forty-two years ago today. Hard to believe. I had a great run, enjoying most of my time at my various duty stations (there's always something not to like about something or somewhere, right?) |
