This is a poem that can easily be read in several different ways. It works really well as a descriptive piece on nature, with the effects of the sun, but it is just as easy to read it as a more inspirational poem too. Mental clouds were definitely what I pictured most.

There are so many different sports that offer huge prizes to those that are good enough, committed enough to pursue them. You do a great job of showing the lengths someone has to go, not least in distance. 'For those rare and special few...' really sums it up.

Oh, I just love this poem! As someone who is always punctual I know how aggravating it is to be left waiting. The descriptions you used were fantastic with the surfers and the painters, not to mention the singers. From the first line to the last this was altogether brilliant work!

What really struck me was the way you captured the small-mindedness that can be so rife in small towns. You had me feeling both quite outraged and sorry for Maggie and Bobby and the treatment they received from their neighbors. Glad to see that the ending was such a positive one for them.

Excellent descriptions of the young deer as it explored alone. You did a great job of building the sense of sudden alarm which sent the deer running forwards, intent only on escaping what was behind rather than also seeing the dangers ahead.
Two tiny errors which you might like to fix. In the penultimate sentence: "Tell me a story (or "your story")..." And also:'He is shocked by something sharp pinning against his body...'
A very enjoyable read, with a nice build-up of tension.

Wow, well this really is some write. You say that you wrote it while in an emotional state and I think it shows - I do a lot of that myself and it breaks down the barriers we sometimes put up in expressing our thoughts and feelings. In other words, I meant that in the most complimentary of ways.
Vivid descriptions, not only of scenery but of raw emotions too.

Wow, well that was some horrific change that your character went through.And isn't that so often the way with doctors - when you really feel in need of them, they are not available. The description of the reflection in the mirror was well done - just enough description to make it horrifying.

There is something very emotional about this poem; it almost feels too intimate. You built up some very strong visual images with the rain in the dark, and the fever. Also the cycle wheel rusted and stuck in a rut. But the real knock-out line was the final one.

That's a very hard question to tackle, but you did so in a really entertaining way. I think the example of weighing a 20 line poem with a 1000 page book made the point very well as did Twinky's poem beginning 'Poetry is exposition...' At least you managed to give me a general idea.

What a great way to show a house that has been abandoned, and one that is old too. It's true too, those doors get warped and the floor beneath them gets worn down by the passage of many feet. I was glad you ended on a lighter note with the house finding some new occupants.

This is the sort of story that I really enjoy reading; one with a dystopian or apocalyptic feel to it. Coffee was a great way of beginning to show the changes that had changed the world. I was glad to see that books had survived. A poignant choice made by Ben.

This was lovely; both celebratory and sad at the same time. There certainly is something special about first love and the magic it seems to bring with it, even if, as so often is the case, it doesn't last. This paints a remarkably thorough picture for a poem of so few words. I could easily see those owls with their unblinking eyes weighing up the merits of the field mouse. The image of their discussion - shown by 'waxing philosophic' - is very effective.

Homelessness is certainly not something that many people like to acknowledge could ever happen to them. I guess that for the bulk of the homeless this applies too. It's certainly not something that is confined to addicts or those suffering from mental health problems. Society as a whole needs to work to solve this ever-increasing problem.

I don't think I've heard of an elephant race before - although I have seen the films of them stampeding and it's obvious they can pick up speed. the rondeau seems to be quite a complicated poetic form but you did a great job with it here.

I'd read the first part of this so was quite interested to see where you were going to take this. I liked the way that Sophia was able to put her childhood experiences with her brothers into practice to work those ropes loose. The kidnapper clearly does not have any intention of returning the girls, shown by the way he is worried about losing his head.

I'm going to guess that this was written for the Dialogue 500 competition. A nice flow of dialogue that kept the story moving along nicely. Just goes to show how deceptive appearances, and manners, can be.

As someone that prefers free verse, but also writes some poems that rhyme, I found this quite interesting. To be honest, I find more than a few poetry forms both clumsy to read and difficult to understand. Not all, just some. I think poetry is very much down to the individual reader and writer, which of course makes it far more difficult to review.
