You're Blog took me back to the 50's and 60's. I was born in 1951, and while my Dad grew up south of Dallas, I grew up in South Dakota on a farm, with a stay at home Mom. Our food was grown and processed excepted for flour, sugar, yeast, corn flacks, corn meal, pinto beans, and some fruit. Meat, tomatoes, potatoes, corn, green beans, peas, pumpkins and squash was all froze or caned by Mom and us kids. Milking cows, lambing the sheep and goats and pigs while going to school kept us busy. And probable grew up faster then we should have.-charlie55

I am really enjoying reading your memories. There isn't much difference in our ages, I was born in 1953. We share many of the same things, like spending time outside and a simpler life. I enjoyed the 60's. Just the 6 years or so between us made a real difference in what women wanted. Cooking was never a big part of my life although Mom made her own bread also. I remember coming home to those loaves rising and the smell was wonderful. My mother started talking to me about college when I was young. She wanted me to have a better life but I believe it was the change in the world's view of women. My Mom was like yours in that she always worked to help out once we were in school. She really enjoyed her "professional life" and often voiced her regret at not having gone further in school.

It sounds like you and your Mom had a wonderful close relationship and I fought with mine all the way through high school. I would like to take those times back so we all have regrets. I have a feeling that your Mom knew how much you appreciated her.
