Take UP Your Cross Blog Prompt: When it comes to sin and good deeds too, do you think your motives are important? Does God take it into consideration when you are judged for your works on Earth? Why? I think God definitely considers the motive of the heart even more so than the action itself. I believe he is more concerned with the matters of the heart than anything physical. Prayer prompt: Pray that the heart of those involved in witchcraft would be turned toward God and they would repent of their sins to Follow Christ. Looking for various food items, I stopped by planet Soldier_Mike and found this item.
Read, review and write about pets and cooking. My pets are always watching me while cooking. The cats are not allowed on the counter when I am. I have them trained.
On this day in 1940 Richard and Maurice McDonald open the 1st McDonald's restaurant in San Bernardino, California Hard to believe it's been around 85 years! How old were you when you first went to a McDonalds? What was your favorite item on the menu? Do you still go to McDonalds? I don't remember my first trip to McDonald's. I know it was after 1976 when I was born. I've always loved the chicken nuggets. I occasionally still eat there when I need a quick and less expensive meal. Prompt: "Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Plato Write about this in your Blog entry today. This is a true statement, I think. We never know what the other person is experiencing. I keep things to myself even when it comes to my best friend. She won't know until later when I feel like I can tell her that I was even trying to process something, even things from the past. Sometimes there are layers of hurt and it takes layers of forgiveness and acceptance. Sometimes I think I've processed something, then another layer is revealed and here we go again. You just never know what someone else is going through. ![]() |

The most exciting thing I encountered on Monday... What drains your energy in your life? And in what ways can you stay grounded in stressful situations? Oh My! Do we really want to go here? LOL Health conditions, complainers, rude and ignorant people, Heavy/hard work... I do enjoy hard work sometimes but it can drain me quickly, especially now that I am getting older. We won't talk bad about people by giving an explanation to that one. I have health conditions that cause me to be more tired than I should be. In order to cope, I try to get plenty of rest, listen to my body, take a walk, pray, practice gratitude, praise God, and listen to music or audio book. ![]() |
Summary of Week 8 Joseph Bible Study We ended last week with Joseph having his cup put in Benjamin's sack and having his brothers stopped and accused of stealing his silver cup. They had agreed to being searched because they did not know they had Joseph's cup and was ready to prove their innocence. They still did not know they were dealing with Joseph at this point. They just knew he was an Egyptian ruler, next in command to Pharoah himself. This week's study begins with the actual search of the brothers' bags. The brother's sacks were searched in order from eldest to youngest. I am noticing this seems to be a theme in the story of Joseph and his brothers. Obviously, the cup was found. They were taken back to face Joseph again. A side thought occurred to me when noticing birth order seems to be a big deal in the Bible. In Matthew 19:30 Jesus says, "The first shall be last." https://www.gotquestions.org/first-last-last-first.html God often chose the younger sibling to pass on his promise through. He chose Isaac over Ishmael, Jacob over Esau, David over all of his older brothers, and the list goes on and on. In general, I think it means that the way the world views things isn't always the way that God views things. It's God's chosen order that matters and not man's way of viewing things. The brothers tear their clothes as an outward sign of distress and grief. The clothes were often torn over the heart to represent a broken heart. However, God wants our heart to be torn and broken over our sin so that we can fully repent and be healed. Joel 2:11-14 ▼ See also Joel 3:14 and Revelation 22:11-12 A lot of times what happens in the physical realm is a mirror of what is happening in the spiritual realm. Do you have pests in your home? He ordered for everyone to leave the room except for his brothers while he revealed himself to them. While revealing himself, he wept so loudly that the Egyptians could hear him throughout the house of Pharoah. He told them... “Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life. For these two years hath the famine been in the land: and yet there are five years, in the which there shall neither be earing nor harvest. And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. Summary of Week 7 Bible study Joseph's brothers have a conversation about regretting what they did to Joseph when he was young. They thought all of this was happening to them because of what they had done to Joseph. Rueben has the "I told you so" attitude towards his other brothers. As the brothers are having this conversation discussing their guilt, Joseph understood them, but they didn't know that. They had not recognized him yet and he hid his true identity and used an interpreter to communicate with them. Joseph had to hide his tears as he turned away and wept. Joseph still gave them provision and even gave their money back to them. When they found it in their sacks, they were afraid. He had Simeon bound and taken away to the prison in front of them before they returned home. They wondered what God was doing to them because they had sinned. This goes to show us that our own conscience can torment us when we have done wrong. Befell means something happened, usually bad. This word is used in verse 29 of the King James Version Bible in our text. Jacob is also afraid when he sees all the money is still in their sacks. He gets upset with his sons because they told the Egyptians that he had a younger son still. He tells them that they are bereaving him of all his children. He had lost Joseph and now Simeon and they were going to cause him to lose Benjamin too. He basically told them that he felt like life was against him. Even the best of us can feel like life is working against us. Rueben tries to offer him the life of his own 2 sons if he doesn't bring Benjamin back safely. However, Jacob isn't having any of it. He tells him that if he were to lose Benjamin too, he would die from grief. He didn't think he could bare it. Joseph's brothers were in a bit of a predicament. Their father didn't want to let them take Benjamin anywhere. However, they were told not to come back to Egypt without him to prove they weren't spies. When the food began to run out again from their first trip, they feared death by going to Egypt again without their youngest brother and they feared death by starvation from not doing so. Jacob tells them to go back to Egypt. Finally, Judah spoke up. He tells his father that they can't go back to Egypt without Benjamin. If he will send him with them then they would go. Otherwise, they would not. Judah told their father that he would be collateral for him. If he didn't bring Benjamin back safely, he would bear the shame and responsibility for it. Jacob is bitter because they even told the Egyptians that they had a younger brother, but Judah explains that they had been asked directly about it. And how were they to know the Egyptians would require that of them? So, Jacob relinquishes and allows them to take Benjamin back to Egypt with them. He tells them to take the money back that they had found in their sacks before along with a generous gift to find favor with the Egyptians because perhaps it had been an accidental oversight. This is Jacob's response and final resolve to the situation in verse 14, "And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved." When Joseph saw them returning with Benjamin, he commanded his servants to prepare a meal for them and to bring them all to his house. This frightened his brothers because they thought it was maybe because they had brought the money back and they were in trouble. However, Joseph reunited them with Simeon and told them not to fear that their God had given them money back in their sacks. Joseph's brothers brought him the gift they had for him when he returned home. He saw his brother Benjamin and had to make his way to his chamber to weep. He washed his faced and regained his composure and had his servants begin the meal. He had their seats arranged from oldest to youngest and gave Benjamin 5 times the amount of his brothers. And the Bible says that they enjoyed the meal together. Joseph continues to mess with his brothers' heads. He fills up their sacks with as much food as they can carry and gives their money back to them again. Then he has his personal silver cup hidden in Benjamin's sack. After they leave, but haven't gone too far, he sends his steward after them with the accusation of haven stolen his cup. So, it is agreed among all of them that whoever has stolen the cup will remain behind to be Joseph's servant, not knowing that Benjamin actually had the cup. |
