The rating issue could arise with contests that allow for more explicit writings. The pieces would have to toe a pretty delicate line if the forum is rated 18+. This (along with length) made me err on the side of requiring items back in my contest hosting days. Unlike a lot of contest hosts, I actually encouraged longer items that would make far more sense as port items.

And links are always helpful in conversations like this. As someone who deals with complex troubleshooting for a living (thanks in part to my past work on the site), I often find myself grappling with only half the information available at a time due to my colleagues having undocumented conversations. At this point, it's second nature for me to request additional sources/documentation. On top of that, for long time members, we may be working with slightly different information in our memory banks. Including links helps us update our information. Long story short: never assume everyone is privy to a conversation and document, document, document.
