This choice: ...your girlfriend, Allison. How was she taking all this?  •  Go Back...
Chapter #11

...your girlfriend, Allison. How was she taking...

    by: Wassel Author IconMail Icon
...your girlfriend, Allison. How exactly was she taking all this? The news that her boyfriend had suddenly been transformed into a girl. She was the love of your life. You'd been together for the last 4 years and saw yourself lasting at least another 40. Now though, you has no idea what was going to happen, how she had reacted (presuming the doctors had actually told her). Allison being pretty cool and relaxed about a lot of things, but you seriously doubted that this would be one of them. She was no lesbian that was for damn sure. And even if she were, fat little 'Annie Plumper' wasn't exactly the kind of girl she would go for. Allison being super hot and pretty damn popular around the school. Amazed at yourself that you'd actually been able to snag her. Having even been making plans to lose your virginity to one another this summer. So much for that now though...

Putting the subject of your girlfriend to your parents, desperate to know how she was, your mother replied, "She's fine. Same as the rest of us. Everyone else came out of the accident with little more than a few cuts and bruises." Your brother and sister included.

"And does she... does she know? ...About me. About what happened?"

"Of course. The doctors had to tell her."

You were relieved, and yet at the same time extremely nervous. Nervous to discover what exactly she thought of all this. Of you now being inside Annie's body.

Pressing your mother then, "And?"

"And she's waiting outside right now," she told you. Indicating towards the door. "Do you want us to go get her?"

Oh God... you squeaked. Not really knowing how to answer. It being bad enough your parents seeing you like this, but Allison... How would you even be able to look her in the eye? Feeling like such a freak right now, and the knowledge that she was outside suddenly making you feel all the worse. Finally stuttering in response, "I... I... I dunno..."

Seeing just how anxious you were, your mother gripped your hand firmly. Giving it a gentle little squeeze (which you could just barely feel through the numbness) as she assured you, "It's alright, sweetheart. There's nothing to be worried about. It's Allison. She's not going to judge you."

"Buh-but... But what if... what if she doesn't see me as me anymore? What if she only sees Annie?"

"Now don't be silly, Tim," your mother replied, almost laughing. "How long have the two of you been going out now? ...Four years is it? Of course she'll see you as you." Looking towards your father then and telling him, "Now go on, Don. Go bring Allison in. It'll do the two of them good to see one another."

Watching rather helplessly as your father disappeared out the door, while your mother helped you to sit up for Allison's arrival. Assuring you once again as she did that you had nothing at all to worry about. Though worry you still did. Feeling your heart racing now as the door opened again and in she walked with your father. Looking as beautiful as ever. Despite the slightly nervous expression she now wore on her own face.

"Hey there, Tim," she smiled softly. Giving you an awkward little wave.

"Allison..." you croaked. Cringing at the fact that it was still Annie's voice that came out, but trying to hold it together for everyone's sake.

"How you feeling?"

"I've... I've been better," you told her. Wanting to say more, but not really feeling like you could right now with your parents both standing there. Their presence making this entire interaction seem all the more uncomfortable. As if it wasn't enough already to begin with.

Sensing this, your father spoke up. "Say, uhm, Jen. Why don't we go get a cup of coffee or something? Give these two a little time to talk."

"Good idea," she said. Taking this queue. Telling you both that they'd just been down the hallway if you needed them, before leaving you to it.

Finding yourself now staring at one another from across the hospital room. Not really knowing what to say.

"So..." you eventually decided to speak up. Figuring that saying anything at all was better than nothing. "This is pretty weird, huh?"

She nodded. "Yeah. Just a little." Heading towards you then and taking a seat by the bed. "Poor Annie though..."

"Yeah. I didn't even really know her and now I am her. Crazy how things work out."

"At least you're alive. I... I don't know what I'd do if I lost you." Allison's voice quivering slightly as she said this. Reaching down then and taking what was now your own girlish hand in hers. It being rather strange to look at. Even if, you couldn't actually feel it (the drugs having yet to wear off).

"Well... I mean, lets face facts here, Allison..." you responded. Being pragmatic. "...you kind of already have. I'm in Annie's body now. I have to pretend to be Annie in front of people. My life as I knew it... as Tim Connors is pretty much over." There being no way things could be the same between the two of you now.

"Don't say that, Tim. Things will have to be different, sure, but you're still you underneath," she countered. Not giving up on you just yet. "We all know the truth and that'll never change. Besides, no matter who you are or what body you're in, you'll always have me."

"Really? You mean it?" you asked her.

"Of course I mean it," she said. "Why wouldn't I?"

"Well I am kind of Annie Plumper now. I'm... I'm a girl. It's not like we can... you know... not anymore." This being your roundabout way of saying that you couldn't have any kind of physical relationship. Which Allison clearly appeared to understand.

Telling you, "No, maybe not. But that doesn't mean I don't still care for you just as much. That doesn't mean we can't still be friends." Giggling then in that super cute way she always did. "I mean, who knows, maybe having my boyfriend as one of my besties will actually be fun!"

Raising an eyebrow at this. "Fun?"

"Yeah," she enthusiastically nodded. "I can teach you all about makeup and clothes and looking nice and..."

Stopping her there then. A smile working its way across your own face as you realized what she was doing. "Alright, now you're just making fun of me."

"What, me? Never," she protested in her most innocent voice. It being at the same time comforting, as well as kind of excruciating. Knowing that the two of you would never be quite the same again. Allison being just about the greatest thing that had ever happened to you. Telling her as much then.

"You're the nicest, sweetest, most gorgeous girl I know, Allie, but even you wouldn't be seen dead with Annie Olsen." It being fun to imagine that the two of you could still hang around together, but you knew how the social structure of high school worked. It being all but impossible now. What with everyone constantly making fun of Annie and calling her names. Giving it to Allison straight that "Your friends would rip you to pieces if they caught you anywhere near me now." Being so judgmental and cliquey. It being only because the two of you had met in junior high that you'd actually managed to weasel your way in. Otherwise you'd never have gotten within ten feet of a girl like Allison.

She was having none of this however. Replying wholeheartedly, "Then let them. If they don't like who I hang around with then that's their problem." Reiterating once again that, "You're the most important person to me, Tim. Not Shawna or Lana, or Debs. You. And you always will be." The loyalty your girlfriend had for you melting your heart. Feeling slightly teary-eyed now yourself.

"Now come here," she said. Leaning in then and giving your still numb (but responsive at least) body a hug. The two of you staying like this for almost a full minute as she whispered in your ear that everything was going to be alright. That the two of you would find a way to make things work. "...You're not going to get rid of me that easily." Much to your own overwhelming joy. Having lost all your other friends, you couldn't lose her too.
