It was a seizure inducing array of flashing lights that would have put the aurora borealis to shame. Occasionally a shape would appear. Large jellyfish-like shapes. The way they glistened made him think they were made of metal, but he was not sure.
Occasionally, he could make out other shapes. Tiny, stick-like....
Were those humans?
No, something about them. The way they moved, the way their heads were shaped was distinctly unhuman. Yet, they moved in large crowds, away from the light show.
For just a moment, the lights cleared up, and Steven saw what was actually going on.
It was a massacre. An orgy of death.
Corpses lay in piles, to the point he couldn't even see the ground. It was a mess of shattered bodies and limbs strewn out over a battlefield. The living, scarred, battered, and broken, crawled over the corpses in a vain attempt to get away.
Only one glimpse of this horrific image and then a red flash of light...
Steven awoke with a gasp, shooting up into a sitting position.
"I! Wha-! oh?" A deep sigh. "Just a dream."
For a couple moments, Steven just sat there, able to do little more than take breaths in, if only to calm down his pulsing heart. His head hurt badly, as if he had drank a few gallons of beer and passed out onto a concrete floor.
...But that was ridiculous. He never drank anything yesterday. Last he remembered, he was...
was...
For the first time since he woke up, he took in his surroundings. He was in an alleyway. The type that popular media showcased raping and muggings occurring in.
What am I doing here? He thought groggily.
He then frowned. For that matter, what was that soft thing his hand was touching?
He looked down...
Only to be confronted by two large 'pillows' attached to his chest.
