Sam was a shark. She only survived if she kept moving. It wasn’t like she came from some underprivileged background. She was relatively well off, all things considered. Her parents gave he opportunities few had, but opportunities weren’t what they used to be. She had to still make the most of them.
So, rather than go to college, she got certified as a mechanic, she worked for a few years, saved up, took her parent’s college savings and she moved down south with her cousins and bought a historic movie theater. It certainly beat a film degree. She managed to keep that going for a few years, and then the pandemic came along. A movie theater went from being a questionable business to a hopeless one.
Well, lucky for her, in the meantime, Daven’s Port became the American headquarters for something called the ‘Yeng Corporation’ and real estate prices in the area had jumped.
Sam was already thinking of selling when she started talking to Olivia, but when Olivia mentioned how cheap houses were out here Sam started spitballing, and in a few hours she had convinced herself, and Olivia, of this plan.
Sure, they barely knew each other. But now neither of them had to pay rent. The house was paid off in full. Olivia had her job, Sam had a nest egg, and they might not have a lot of relationship experience, but they had a plan, and after years of on-again off-again dating Irene Maxwell, Sam could use a little less relationship experience and sexual chemistry and a little more solid plans together.
The point is, Sam did not get into this position by taking the easy route, or drifting through life. She saw opportunities, and she jumped on them, and tore them to pieces, because she was a shark…
Which is why she was up at 7am to do some of the repairs. Because she figured she could save money by buying a fixer-upper and doing the work herself. And why she was taking a ‘break’ from work to drink coffee and look for a job.
