Chapter #4

Hiding at the beach.

Land, sea, and sky...

Nature has seen fit to plop you down into the middle of a panorama of wonders and horrors. The Lycanroc, though distant, distracted, and potentially domesticated, is still an almost archetypal image of a predator. The Vullaby, clumsily flapping its wings in something more akin to a series of midair leaps than flight, nevertheless poses an almost equal threat. The sea itself, along with the accompanying ocean winds, is perhaps the most deadly variable at all. All it would take is one powerful gust of air, one miscalculation of the tides, for you to face the possibility of being swept out to sea. A deadly possibility, that may well see plunging into the maw of a fish Pokemon, or perhaps getting claimed by the environment itself.

However loaded nature's hand might be, however, fate has seen fit to leave you with a few cards of your own to choose from. None of them are stellar, but at least you have options. You consider those options for a moment, knowing that failing to fully consider your surroundings could lead you to a miserable death.

Heading towards the streets of Hau'oli is a tempting prospect...but what, exactly, are the odds of you making it there in one piece? The stretch of sand between your tiny self and the edge of the beach is long and largely devoid of cover. Once you reach the edge of the beach, you will have to traverse either a large staircase (whose steps may not even be scalable, at this size... it's hard to tell from this distance) or a steep sandy slope laden with potential pitfalls and crowned with a barrier of reeds.

Under the intense heat of the beach, this trek would be arduous on its own... but the gigantic Vullaby hovering of the beach's shores could turn this difficult trek into a deadly one. The grubby little bird need only halt its series of infinite-double-jumps to end your life beneath its ample armored ass. And you would very likely pass into its field of vision. The alternative path...rushing seaward and getting the Lycanroc's attention, would very likely end your life as well.

Realizing that surviving your journey along the beach is somewhere between 'improbable' and 'impossible,' you decide that it's best to wait for now. This is a public beach. No doubt people will arrive any time now...then your odds of survival will skyrocket. And given the fact that you're already under an umbrella, you have the added benefits of being able to hide in the shade... and being in a location where a human is very likely to arrive. Yes.. you will hide. But where, exactly...?

Looking around, you spot a pink bucket that appears to be inverted entirely, resting not too far from your current position. You also notice a toy boat with what appears to be a small pilot's compartment with a functioning door. Alternatively, you could ust shelter under the umbrella for now...
