Going to Dr. Hurt was an act of pure desperation. After all, how was I going to get pregnant if my husband wasn't up to the task? This was about the only way I could solve this problem.
Luckily, the doctor was understanding of my predicament. "What you're describing is not uncommon, Diane," he said. "I've consulted with many women whose husbands, for one reason or another, cannot satisfy their intimate needs. But, I believe that I have the solution."
"You do?"
He nodded, and placed a bottle of pills on his desk. "This has produced definitive results in animal trials, and I feel ready to try it out on human beings."
I picked up the bottle. "How often do I give this to him?"
"Twice a day, until you see results. From what you've described to me, I'm confident that, once he's had a jump start, he will start performing like any other man."
"And what should I tell him about this?"
"Tell him nothing. If he even suspects that you're giving him something for his problem, he'll refuse, and you'll be back at square one."
"Won't the pills themselves be a giveaway?"
He shook his head. "They are colorless, odorless, flavorless, and dissolve almost immediately in water. He'll never even suspect anything is out of the ordinary."
"Are there any side effects I should watch out for?"
He was silent for a moment. "One mouse had a peculiar reaction; however, that was just one out of thousands, with the others showing nothing that was not expected. Rest assured, in no time at all, Adam's drive and performance will match your own."
And so I brought the pills home.

I started Adam on the pills the next day. He never mentioned tasting anything unusual in his morning coffee, or his evening glass of V8. Dr. Hurt was telling the truth about that.
He also told me the truth that I would notice the difference. I definitely noticed it, alright.
