Gonna rock it up, gonna rip it up
all around town tonight.
Joint starts jumpin'
as band starts playin'
that good ol' rock 'n roll.

My baby and I go shaggin'
across gymnasium floor,
up and down and all around,
until band plays final song
and lights go out.

Our family usually flocks
around Christmas smorgasbord
to savor tasty food
along with fond companionship,

but today, such rituals
cannot go on as in past
with coronavirus impacting
our world so much.

Innovation is mandatory at this point
to maintain family bonds.

There was a turkey named Romeo
who loved a chick in the barrio--
a quite romantic scenario,
until Thanksgiving day.
Farmer took him away
and sold him to some gigolo,
who roasted him with oregano.

One fine day, as I was searchin' for my Muse,
the Storymaster wrote some code that he could use
to build a sanctuary for writers,
so we could tarry and pull all-nighters,
trying to light the creative fuse.

The folks at Writer's Cramp will test our wits,
and Stormy Lady's words will give us fits,
but kansaspoet's ghost still lingers here
to make it absolutely clear
that quality counts in a poetry blitz.

While the werewolves are howling at the moon
and graveyard residents moan their gruesome tune,
we'll write it all for posterity,
each and every monstrosity,
thanks to Storymaster's creative boon.

May the goblins of gab ignite your conflagration
with a gallon of pyrotechnic inspiration.
May the witches brew a ton of titillation
in the cauldron of your imagination.

Holiday shopping can lift our spirits
with Santa Claus waiting to charm
flocks of young boys and girls
by gushing a jolly "Ho, ho, ho!"
Bright, colorful lights on display
and joyous Christmas music
add a bit of flair.

Holiday shopping can sap our spirits
with crushing crowds rushing around,
trying to find amazing gifts
at discount cost and grab last in sight.
Such frantic conduct will drain
bank account and flood loan liability.

Good luck in finding your way through
that labyrinth of conflicting conditions!

We thank the men and women who celebrate
the holidays so far away from home,
in spite of personal forfeiture
required to fulfill their sacred charge.

We thank them for their dedication
as they slog up mounts and ride the waves,
fly through storms to deliver goods
in order to keep our nation free.

From Normandy Beach to Desert Storm,
from Iwo Jima to Isis Caliphate,
some fought and paid a heavy price.
We thank them for their sacrifice.

A gawky kid from Tupelo
walked into record studio
to start career on radio.

With guitar strapped on his back,
he demonstrated quite the knack,
and bought his mom a Cadillac.

"You ain't nothing but a hound dog,
cryin' all the time..."

The two-faced Cajun voodoo queen
lures unsuspecting men into her lair
with angelic facade so serene,
then eats them for lunch without a care.

The taste of human flesh lingers,
but she protects her miniskirt
when blood trickles through her fingers
while she enjoys goat entrails for desert.

She gazes into the looking glass
and observes completely broken lass,
because her worst fears have come to pass.

Reflection looks back and sees despair
from one caught up in Destiny's snare
with no reason remaining to care.

She leans out of frame and looks for door,
because she cannot take any more.
They're both ready for that other Shore.

On parade field in early morning mist,
all decked out in dress uniform
and ready for graduation ceremony,
looking forward to first duty assignment.

One phase over and the next begins
without a clue about what future holds.
Preparing for the worst,
while hoping for the best.
